Attempted theft!

Hi all,

I woke up this morning to find the door of my disco 4 (2012) wide open and the panel below the steering wheel removed. The police reckoned they may have been looking for a tracker. I couldn't see any obvious damage but wondered if there was something behind that panel that they've taken or would want to tamper with. Any help would be great. Cheers

Not keyless entry but obviously keyless start. Can't work out. What they were after behind that panel?.

Access to the OBD plug?

That's where it is on the D3, might be low IQ thieves, did you leave the vehicle unlocked?

My have been opportunist, happened to my father in London.

Maybe they were ADDING something that will help them steal it later (e.g. a tracker or new key).....or they tried to take it but couldn't and were looking for an additional security device that might be thwarting them.

Check all the doors are actually locking Thumbs Up
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

2 possibilities in my opinion …

1. they were disturbed … but I think someone would have let you know, so discount that.
2. they couldn't use the key programmer on your ODB port and assumed it was a dummy so opened panel to see if real one was accessible.

So … unless you do have a protected/moved port, I suspect yours isn't working. In any case, you need to get someone with iid tool or similar to get the ODB port working and make sure only the keys you have are programmed to the car.

so first question is how did they get the door open, wasnt the car dealocked? With the door shut is much harder even if they get in through a broken window to get the lower panel off.

It's a little worrying that this has happened. It's a little worrying that you don't know exactly what they were doing. But fear not. The vast majority of thieves are only slightly more intelligent than jelly fish. And they don't have a brain. So, in all likelihood they probably only had the thinnest of grasps themselves on what they were doing.

Hopefully their abortive effort ill mean they go looking elsewhere.

Move OBD docket and connect a fake OBD socket up to 240v and leave the car unlocked, no need for an alarm you’ll hear them Thud Rolling with laughter

I beg to differ....Unfortunately the thieves in Essex are quite proficient! Proper organised crime ... I can’t tell you the number of Transits and Sprinters i’m losing in that part of the world...all with no keys.. all 17and 18 plates....
