Auto Dropping out of Drive |
|
A couple of times in the last week my D3 auto has momentarily dropped into neutral on its own. No, the stick stays in "D" but the little "D" light by the odometer goes out for a second or two during which time the engine just revs freely, then the D comes back on and drive comes back. Its a but worrying and only happens after I've almost stopped and the accelerate away again.
Does this sound like a familiar fault to anyone?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks,

Yep, had that too, should be around if you search for it.
Try being a bit tough when selecting gear for a few times and it loosesens up. Mine did it when braking and took a second to return, but seems ok now.
There is also a bulletin from land rover but i think this covers more when the change is stiff.

Oh thanks busaboy. Thats reassuring. I was getting worried being out of waranty and auto boxex are dear. Yes the gear change is also very stiff so I'll ask the local LR dealer to have a look re the bulletin.
Cheers for your advice. 04 TDV6 SE Auto Vienna Green/Tundra Leather - LR side steps.

The nut on the gearbox linkage could be loose, get the dealer to check. Or remove the plastic gearbox cover from the underside of the car, and check it your self its easy enough. 8 and 10mm sockets is all you need. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I had a similar problem including in command shift, with mine - about the same age as yours -some time ago.Dealer fitted a "modified design" selector cable and it's been okay since. Best to get it checked sooner than later as in my case it was getting worse and dangerous at times. Chipped, K&N, tow pack, AT2's, Mantec, fridge in boot, invertor, Garmin, laptop/Memory Map, Optima yellow top, Traxide Kit, Phillips Extreme bulbs

Needs a new pivot for the gear selector. Should be covered under warranty.
If your out of warranty, the part from memory is about £25, and LR quote 0.9hrs labour, + VAT. Its quite simple to change though

AndrewS, Donald and Disco_Mikey,
Thanks each of you for your advice. At least it does not sound too expensive. I agree its a priority as could indeed be dangerous.
However yesterday my suspension failed....got the dreaded bongs and the real end is right down. Sounds like the compressor.
Still think its a tremendous car though. I suppose its because there's such a lot of technology on the D3s to go wrong.
Cheers,
