Has anyone encountered this problem?
My gear lever doesn't 'lock' into position in drive. That is to say once in drive the lever can be pushed with no effort at all back into neutral and without using the switch on the back of the lever.
Sometimes it slips out of drive and into neutral when driving, usually when I haven't double checked the lever isn't all the way into drive - but there is no firm 'clunk' as it engages like I get when selecting reverse.
It's booked into my local garage in a couple of weeks time but I'm just wondering what they might find.

Hi
Had the same issue with mine just before Xmas. So much so that i spent a week in the Wifes Mazda
Only difference is mine became very stiff to shift
Dropped it into the dealer for its 60K service and mentioned the Auto selector problem
Same as you, jumped out of drive regulalry, got slowly worse so that at one point on leaving a garage I could not select drive, sports mode, nothing
Pretty basic fix. From what I understand the cable leaving the gear selector goes under the car and somewhere on the bottom of the block enters the engine / gear box thing. This cable and sleeve corrodes and slowly seazes up. You then encounter the problem.
In short they remove the cable (There are instructions on this site somewhere for the home mechanics) and grease them up. Don't think they even charged me to fix it (warranty ran out sometime ago)
So, nothing major from my experience
Mazda back with wife, happy days

Thanks People, that doesn't sound too bad and it's still under warranty. It's not going in until the 28th but that is because I'll be away next week. Hopefully it won't get too much worse before they can sort me out.
