Could also be the sign of gearbox/torque converter failure as symptoms are very similar to the linkage fault.

Im new to the forum but i was wondering could i have some advice please?
When i kick the throttle down hard, the vehicle has twice refused to change out of third. Ive changed to command shift, but to no avail. When i stop the dash reads, fault, gearbox has limited gears!
Ive had the vehicle plugged into, and no fault shows! Once you pull over, and switch the engine off, then restart, everything is fine........ I dont boot the disco very often, but every now and then you need to pass something.
Any ideas please???
Does it come up "engine system fault" on the dash when it happens. Have seen a blocked fuel filter cause these kind of issues before. If it is the filter, the engine management should have stored a low fuel pressure fault MMP Land Rover - Land Rover + Range Rover Specialist

Hi,
I'm new to the site but on my second disco 3.
This one is quite new to me but I've just parked it up and now can't get any gear to engage- the stick will move to reverse or neutral but no gears engage and the stick doesn't feel right. Switching on and off allows me to shift the stick to drive but still no drive. The stick won't move position after selecting a gear unless switched off and on
Any thoughts would be really appreciated

Hi All,
I too am new to the site and a new disco3 owner...love my new disco but have an intermittent fault, when i brake i sometimes lose my gears and the car just revs when i try to pull away, i have to either move the selector across and back to get my gears again or wait until i see the small G on the display... My father in law has changed the oil in the gearbox once and replaced with an extra 1/2 litre but this has not rectified the problem
any ideas??
cheers

The selector pivot is siezing or siezed on both above posts is the most likely problem read Disco Mikeys comprehensive repair in the WIKI. Advanced factors supply a complete kit fairly easy replacement.
