Got a huge bill heading my way , the judder from the autobox is really bad now so I think it's time to finally get this sorted.
I have had 1 double flush carried out and 1 mega flush done but the judder came back fairly quick after the mega flush and now it's got to a point where bits are going to start falling off as the judder when towing is bad.
I have been quoted £2500 for the box to be reconditioned but was wondering if anyone can recommend a reputable Land Rover breakers I could go too ?
Since owning the D3 it has always suffered this judder but LR could never find the fault , now it's out of warranty , i'm left with the bill
Regards
Tawny

but for £2300 plus vat you can a new one (which also comes with the air conditioning condenser as well FOC) which includes the torque converter, geabox control module and the gearbox itself along with 19 litres of ATM already in it, fitting should be around £600 whereas you can buy a second hand one and find you've got the same issues either before or shortly afterwards with only a 3 month warranty along with buying transmission fluid at £21 per 1litre x 20 litres (I think)
BTW, if yer get it done at LR dealer then you have 12 months unlimited mileage warranty on parts and labour.
Either way yer go, would suggest changing the raditator and the cooler as you there might be the very small chance of coolant leaking into the gearbox and knackering yer new gearbox
to do all the above (and bearing in mind there is a surcharge of £700 on yer old box which you would not pay if done by LR), expect a bill of £3676 inc vat which covers new rad, new cooler, new a/c condenser, intercooler hoses and if yer feeling generous, you might want to consider brokering a deal to change the water pump (around £60) as the tech will have the rad out anyway
take it from me, once you've had it the above done, it will pull like a train and be a joy to drive

Surely there's a discussion to be had there - especially if you reported the fault when under warranty..? 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

I was thinking more of the dealer who couldn't find a fault - is that request and subsequent report in writing? 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

When you say a judder is it intermittent and does any driving style in particular bring it on? Rev range etc?
Thanks and best of lick getting it resolved. 2007 D3 HSE Artic Frost Silverish

Torque converter SHUDDER or Judder as it's referred to, feels like a vibration under load in 3rd gear accelerating, this was more an oil viscosity problem not Torque Converter failure although TC replacement was the cure.
The lock-up clutch plate inside the TC will have an abnormal shine to it (Glazing as we would call it)
This may help in your diagnosis. You can also try command shifting to the desired gear and experiment. I would say though that you sometimes can even feel it from a dead stop. If it's just begin, as many people here have reported solving, or putting off by a "double flush" or flush, fluid and filter change.
PM Me for diff parts, check my gallery for pictures of used diff parts.

I am having the gearbox replaced at this very monent. But its a small nightmare. Bought an almost brand new box from Equicar4x4 for just 750 quid. Guaranteed me it was a straight fit. Well the box itself was a straight fit, howvever the dealer cannot programm the Mechatronic/ECU. With the help of Nick, SteveNorman and ZF Holland we determined what the exact fault is. Apperently the new ECU communicates at a higher speed the the LR equipment and there's no way working around that.
Hoping to hear from ZF today what the solution might be. Possibly swap the old ECU back into the new box if its in good nick or buy a new Mechatronics at the rate of a 1000 quid.
Worst case scenario is that I can't use the new box at all.
Well at least the new rad and waterpump fitted perfectly.

Wildrover Getting the transmission judder normally in 3rd @ 30mph but seems to also be happening in 2nd when towing.
tlt Cheers for the info , tried to use command shift but still get the judder , going to go for a new box from TLO.
Renton Sorry to hear of your troubles too , this is what scares me about second hand stuff but good luck with it , Nick and Steve are top guys.
Going to get it into Yeovil where they have kindly offered to help me out with some discount as promised when last discussed , top guys
