| Auto Gearbox - Parking on Slope problems |

Hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction..
My Disco is usually parked on my flat driveway and changes into D-R-N-P with no problems at all, however if I park on any slight slopes or inclines the gearbox becomes quite difficult to engage any of the gears.. the best way to describe it would be as if it "jumps or clunks" into gear ... it requires a heavy hand at times and i am starting to get slightly worried. Had a look at this thread below but wanted a second opinion

If you don't use the EPB before you release the footbrake, then the car will hold on it's autobox 'pin' if on a slope, you will get movement up to the pin making it a little more difficult to get it out of P. This would be different to the other problem you posted a link to.
Solution to this is to ensure you've put the EPB on securely before releasing handbrake (car may move slightly still)

I do what Bodsy describes....it's best not to rest the entire D3 on the pawl pin if possible.
- Footbrake
- select Neutral
- apply EBP
- footbrake off and allow the EPB to take the strain
- footbrake again and select P
- footbrake off and sorted
It makes it much easier to select D or R before driving off...I live on a hill and this little procedure becomes second nature after a few goes 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Thanks for posting that Bodsy.. I have been having a few screamer incidents recently and have avoided using the EPB, funny you should say that though because I cant remember having the problem before hand 
I'll give that process a try tonight Paul thanks

I forgot to say that if you are having EPB problems (screamers etc), then I wouldn't actually do what I've written until it is fixed
If I'm parking on relatively flat area I NEVER use the EPB as it is the work of the devil 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Having a very steep drive this is something I learned very quickly, but I do it slightly differently without the Neutral step in the middle.
ie.
Stop and hold on footbrake.
Select Park
Apply EPB
Release Footbrake.
I find that by doing this the car only moves forward very slightly and does not 'rest' on the autobox pin.
When I tried just using 'Park' the car rolled forward at least 6 inches before resting on the pin and I decided that can't be good for the gearbox.
It's the first Auto I've owned, so I'm learning each day and hopefully not doing it any harm.
