Auto Gearbox wobbly
Had a weird experience with my auto box. I had changed to sand mode and selected command shift when it started doing weird things. At 30 mph built up area (so not much over that if any) it said I was in 6th with 2000 rpm. Put it back into proper auto mode and every time I took foot off throttle the revs dipped to several hundred as if clutch was disengaged. They then went back up to where they should have been for the speed I was doing. Did this a few times until I put the car back into "Special programs off" mode & car was back to normal again. After reset it behaved fine in normal and sand mode (full auto or command shift). Anybody any thoughts of similar weirdness from their auto box???

Just wondering why were you doing that chap .
Maybe the settings/car don't like being messed with at those speeds. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Was just trying out sand mode, will be giving it a miss in future as gearbox definately did not like it. Hoping it is just a glitch and car will forgive me! It's booked in for its 1st service by way of apology.

DSL, whilst I have not messed arund with the tr settings as you describe, I have experienced the torque convertor disengaging at speed. I could not repeat it if required, but I have certainly been travelling at speed with the gears in D and the revs at idle. I suspect downhill coasting might have something to do with it.
I have also experienced a failure of the torque convertor to lock up for a while after using command shift, this results in higher than normal revs. It sorts itself out though, so not worried.

Keep Sand Mode in yer pocket for the traffic light grand prix - you don't need it above 30mph
Also I never use it with Command Shift / Sport modeSteve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Yer...Sand Mode is fine in normal auto....but if you slip it over to Command Shift it holds onto the gears like all 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I was told by an LR experience instructor that use of sand mode to give improved acceleration on tarmac can/will lead to expensive failure. I suggest avoiding the temptation to play... GS Arctic Frost, Auto, Cruise, Roof Bars (for amateur/ham radio antennas), tow kit, side mouldings, folding mirrors, alpine roof....

The torque converter is meant to release in some modes to reduce engine braking, sand mode being the one this happens in the most. The idea is to prevent the vehicles wheel speed being less than the ground speed, thereby reducing the risk of breaking the surface of the terrain
Someone's really thought this through ya know!

Will no longer be fiddling with TR settings! Would definately not want a failure in the wallet department.
