At least us with proper auto gearboxes will only need one knee replacement opp when older
Just checked the link on it works fine for me In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Link works fine for me.
Perhaps I've not quite grasped gearboxes yet but isn't the auto/manual preference irrelevant off-road as you're using the low-range 'box anyway? Or am I on the total wrong lines there (quite likely) ? 2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

Nice one
Oh er yes wrong lines there chap.
The manual in low box is a manual and the auto in low box is an auto. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Andrew,
I suspect it's the DSC getting a bit excited and over acting. It's designed to kick in (reducing engine power by half), if it senses an unbalance between wheel speed, steering input, body gyro and throttle position, and even with it switched off it is still active in a stealth mode. Hence when traction is lost by all the wheels at once it react violently killing up to 80% of your power just when you least need it to.
I'm a bit confused when you say the revs die before you attempt the climb, I can't tell from the video, that suggests throttle switch or injection trouble. Does it rev okay on the flat? fuel pick up problem at the angle?
Have you managed to hold it on a hill and restart?
Sorry if preaching to the conveted as you know what you you are doing with it.

Donald thanks for your comments My explanation of the problem is not clear, The revs drop and the engine stalls whilst trying to climb with some power on. Not dying before the climb.
Your explanation of the DSC kicking in 'In Stealth Mode' is spot on however this is very different. I have experienced and witnessed the DSC doing this on a number of occasions. We have found that keeping the car as stable as possible and limiting throttle input will get you further than flooring it.
The car has stalled in these circumstances from new. We have tried to climb a steep but smooth surfaced hill with minimum power and it still stalls.
I think its a gearbox fault.
She is going into the dealers on Wednesday for a full diagnostic check. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Andrew,
If it is stalling on an easy low range tick over type climb then like you I would suspect the gearbox control ECU could be at fault but I would think that it would manifest itself in other situations too. Do you feel it hunting for a gear?
The revs dropping only in a climb make me think that it it is linked to the DSC / TC side of things possibly body control module?
Let us know how you get on with the dealer.
Donald

That's a strange noise once it's stalled, the wer wer wer wer wer noise that's gets lower in tone if that's make sense . Is that the tourque converter?
Also, in the the Castle Inn, you and TFC were speaking about reverse torque, could I ask what that is about? The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us yet.

We were wondering if it was possible for the following things (in simple terms) to happen
Engine rotates the components in the auto box
These components push fluid that A turns the wheels B changes gear as road speed increases and decreases.
Q is it possible that this fluid could build up pressure to a point that it cant push anymore, changes direction flows back and tries to actually reverse the rotation of the engine.
A bit like you running away with a bungee cord attached to your belt, eventually you cant continue and end up being forced back.
The questions are
Is the the Auto box flawed
Is there a simple fault ie a flow valve not doing what it should
Is the system flawed ie the TC DSC interfering with the auto box and in turn drive.
AS you witnessed I was not abusing the vehicle when it kept stalling. It should have coped easily with what we were doing. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Must admit, never heard that sound when the manual has stalled in a similar situation. Just stops dead, no noise, just dead stalled.
DiscoDunc's (last time at Boughrood) and many others have made the same noise when stalling under load.

Andrew, I think your exhaust note gives a clue. It does make a nice sharp growl when under power. If the auto box was somehow stalling the engine by force, the exhaust note would remain sharp as the revs died. From what I can tell from the clip, the exhaust note softens as the engine dies, as though you had backed off the accelerator.
I think something is shutting off the engine, not stalling it.
Does it restart instantly afterwards? if it was a fuelling problem, I would have thought it would have been difficult to restart.

Not much help here, just comments. I have stalled repeatedly in sand, and repeatedly on slippy surface up hill. Mine stalls when car has become stationary and I still have the foot down but not going anywhere. On limited data, I believe this happens less with traction control turned off. I have never asked about it because I just figured I was doing something wrong. Interesting if this is a silent phenomena that many of us are experiencing.
Andrew, if your vehicle comes back with an identified fault from the dealer, everything I have written here is false, and I have never once stalled the engine <*(((<<

Is there a rev limiter on the diesel , as on Jeep ?
Would such a setting reduce the over-reving or cut out ?
