With you there Russell , nearly 3 months in a I still get that moment of "now what do I need to do again" but it is a big habit to break given the years and years of sticks.

It was me that said I'd heard the stick was coming back soon, while still retaining the paddles. I would have thought that could provide the best of both worlds?

Out of interest from those who love it, what are the advantages of the 'knobomatic'?

I would say

1) Cleaner Looking
2) Don't have to remember to put it into Park

Also , I am assuming it removes any chance of me having the issues with the pivot point that I had on my D3 , apparently it was a common wear point and in my case resulted in me not being able to get the key out of the ignition as well as making the lever a little resistant to movement.

I am sure there are others.

Cheers

Might as well start a rumour that the 2013MY is going to have neither a stick nor knob - I heard that LR are extending the functionality of the "Say What You See" Voice control to a voice controlled gearbox

I would agree with the above points, and just find it more user friendly

Must admit that I was a bit reluctant about the knob but now I have it it's great for the reasons stated above. Thumbs Up

Also in my last D4 when using command shift with the lever I always felt it was the wrong way around Razz

Oh , and you can't jump in stick it in drive and then sit there wondering why the car won't start

Also , does it stop someone sticking it in N and moving it ?

Cheers

Had the following "from the horse's mouth" @ LR...

"2013 model will have an option of stick or rotary shift"

Source did not give the 2013 model launch date but I would presume it will be end of 2012 beginning of 2013.

Also got some very interesting titbits re hybrid and new RR vogue, which no doubt will be aired on this forum at some point. What I can say is that the vogue will be about £93k!!!

Maybe it will....

come back as a....dipstick.
.....things come round in circles

Personally I preferred the J gate transmission shift of the S type I had & the conventional lever of the original 3...the knob is a gimmick.
also...dont like the knob as you have to look down to see where you have clicked it to
There is less to wrong with conventional shift...

Another point is:
does the rotary knob get around the issue of the pivot & linkage under the car that rusts up ?
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.
