United Kingdom 2007 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Manual Zermatt SilverDiscovery 3

Gareth,
Reminds me of an 'issue' AndrewS had on a particularly slippy hill decent, he released the brake pedal but didn't apply any accelerator so the EPB didn't release - the front wheels and gravity basically dragged the rear down the hill with lots of sideways slippy - slidy motion Rolling Eyes
The EPB needs to sense a minimum of 5% throttle movement before the EPB will release

Yep saw that on the icy hill in the Goyt when we were 'playing'

The answer is don't be so lazy, and always positively release your parking brake before releasing the footbrake Wink

The engine will rev to the limiter in low range command shift, but whats the point in that?

The point I was trying to make, Gareth, is that unlike in high where the command shift will still change up when it's had enough of a particular gear...... in low it won't and therefore it does drive very much like a manual in terms of control.

"Rev up to the limiter" was an expression used to reassure that it wouldn't do that same change up rather than a desire to rev the gonads off it Very Happy

I didn't experience the kangaroo you mention though Confused

.... and the point I was trying to make is that when the effects of gravity and rolling resistance overcome the torque of the engine, a manual will simply stall, whereas an auto will attempt to force fluid the wrong way round the 'box and TC Shocked

unlikely to occur on downhill acents, more uphill - so you should see an oily glow running away from you in your door mirrors Very Happy
you may also find that command shift results in the VC module giving a very apologetic 'sorry' Confused

Slightly off topic but I could find this anywhere else by searching - whilst descending off the hill on my mates farm last week (in my auto) I found the brakes were binding rather badly - snapping on very easily - I assume they'd got a bit hot as I'd come down without using HDC

One situation where an auto is far easier than a manual is rock crawling.

There is one lane we are doing in the Peak District which going to seriously test your speed control over some fairly large rocks. I found it a simple task to inch my D3 through.

Never hit the breaks when going down hill, always switch HDC OFF when off-roading.

Put the DIII in LOW 2or even 1 if steepdown hill, and let the car go, the engine will hold the speed, and at least you keep control.

if you hit the breaks, and start sliding, it can be over...

the only time you may hit firm but short the breaks, is when the car tends to overspeed, but with my manual this seldom happens
