United Kingdom 2007 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Manual Zermatt SilverDiscovery 3

Penguin, nope, he released the foot brake prior to going over the crest of the hill. Have to disagree with you though about the use of HDC, i've never had or heard of it inducing a slide downhill, however slippy, personally I only switch it on when decending very steep and slippy gradients, a gentle application of the accelerator is sometimes needed if it gets over-enthusiastic but I find it a great system

Gareth, true, the auto box is excellent for rock crawl Wink

Never hit the breaks when going down hill

Land Rover Instructor at Yarwell Quarry - spotting me on a short (25ft) but very steep hill.

" You are going to need to use your brakes here, release them half way down the hill and allow HDC to take over"

I did and it worked for that scenario - it's seems therefore that there are occasions when braking is required Wink

France 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Manual Chawton WhiteDiscovery 3

Just to put in another vote for the manual, ours is excellent. I test drove an auto, which was definitely the best auto I have have driven, but sorry, I just don't like autos much!

It just wasn't good enough to justify the extra consumption, extra complication, extra cost, etc. as TFC said (we also have a manual HSE).

As far as use on-road is concerned, on motorways it doesn't really matter which you have, and in town I find the TDV6 so flexible and the gearbox crisp, so that gear changing isn't a problem.

Perhaps it's a Bombay Sapphire = prefer manuals (ooh err! Shocked ) thing since I'm quite partial to the blue bottle myself!
