Automatic access height 2014

Hi folks! I just got a 2014 LR4 HSE and learning about it as much as I can (not a previous owner either, so I'm new to the car and brand). I live in the US BTW (just in case there are model differences about my question).

I was wondering if there was a way to program or set the car to go into access height automatically when parking or turning off? I read about potentially raising/lowering with keys but that requires the hazard lights to be on and not practical.

Thanks!

I would imagine, if this was possible it would cause issues every time you stopped moving in traffic. Not sure how the car would distinguish parking vs traffic.

Not sure whether there is a particular issue you are trying to solve but from my perspective I just press the button (in the car) on mine. Takes 5 secs to drop. You can do this as you slow down to save time. At slower speeds by holding the button down it will lock it in access mode. I use that for going under height restrictions etc in car parks for instance.

It surprises me that this is not an option to enable for when the vehicle is turned off. So far no one has managed to automate this, and it's not an option of the vehicle. Putting an ECU in line with the suspension ECU, similar to LLAMS would be possible, it's just not been developed. It's a shame as it's a natural extension of the product.

I know what you're after, my wife is disabled and always needs access mode so it would be a lot easier for us if it went to access height when put in park or engine turned off. Sadly I don't think theres any setting as standard to do that but maybe an "adaption" could be devised?

No it won't do it automatically...the best way is to just flick the button as you are about to come to a stop.

Good thing is it will raise automatically, well at a certain speed, so that's only half the wear on the button flicking finger.

I'll check later but i think you get a short period after stopping when it will still lower. Almost pointless in my case as my father in law insists on opening the door, which stops it lowering, no matter how often or loudly i tell him to wait Banging Head

Pressing the button becomes habit, I tend to press it before I come to a complete stop so it is already in access mode by the time I stop. This avoids the lowering process being interrupted by passengers that can't wait to get out of the car.

Thanks for your responses everyone. My mother in law is elderly and she finds it much easier to get in and out at access height.
Gary, in the automatic transmission, I was thinking setting the gear to Park (not done in traffic), or turning the engine off, you could enable this.

I will remember to just press the button. It will become habit soon I'm sure. Just got the car 2 days ago so wanted to see what's programmable etc.

Thanks again folks!

Hi Dulanjan

I see, yes getting out at access height is important. I 'm sure you'll get used to pressing the button or as Hardware17 says constantly reminding people to wait. We had a chat with our in-laws about waiting when we got the car and they have got used to it now and they do wait as we pull up and ask if it's ready before opening the door.
Good luck with the car, I'm sure you'll get to grips with it. You're in the right place for help, advice and experience as I have learnt over the last 2 1/2 years.

By the way, are you an extremely early riser or an insomniac?

Cheers
 Gary

Hahaha yes a bit of both. I have a 16 month old so I wake up fairly early, and can't sleep more than 5 or 6 hours so I tend to go to bed late too.

We got the car mostly for one of our four legged rescues (a Spanish Mastiff that weighs 150 lbs), who used to have to stoop his head in the back of the X5 we had. The LR4 has high clearance in the cargo section and the glass sides are nice for them to "sight see".

Been there, read the book and seen the play on the sleep thing with kids.

Snap ! Yes the high back and non raked rear make it ideal for carrying loads. When I bought mine we tested with my dog as that was the critical factor. He's a 98kg Irish wolfhound. His shoulders are waist high when on all fours (and I'm a six footer) and he's probably over seven feet if he stands up. A bit of a wooky really.

If you're regularly carrying a big dog, beware the wear and tear on the back area. I've had to rig up various polythene sheet, towel, old bed-sheet protection to stop him pushing his wet nose/snout onto the headlining by the load area windows. It can get grubby and constant wet does it no good at all. I've protected it with some scotchguard too. The back headrests can get dirty quite quickly after a muddy walk. I have put some leather protector on them so they clean off easily. I also use a good boot liner and mats to help protect it and give him a comfortable ride. He's like a sponge for anything muddy.

Wait a minute.... I should have bought an old defender . In fact ..........................

Cheers
 Gary
