Automatic Transmission Fault

I was wondering whether anyone here had had the following fault, so I might provide some guidance when my D3 goes to the Dealers.

This seems to happen after the vehicle has been stood parked, engine off for at least a couple of minutes.

Start engine. Put foot on brake and bring back the gear lever towards Reverse. Seems to require more effort than usual to bring the gear lever back. As it moves to the Reverse slot there's a loud clunk from the Gearbox, vehicle rocks slightly, and a whole series of faults light up on the dashboard - transmission fault, HDC off, Park Brake Failure, a number of lights light up on the dash, and the vehicle lowers.

Put vehicle back in Park. Turn engine off. count to 10. Turn engine on. Foot on brake and into reverse/drive as smooth as anything - no fault on dashboard lights, a brief message on dashboard info screen saying Transmission fault and then gone.

The first time it occurred all that happen was that it was 'clunking' when Reverse was selected, or Drive, or moving between the two. In fact when it was in low box I was able to make the vehicle rock itself like some american 'pimp mobile' by sliding the gear shift back and forth between Reverse and Drive a few times. However there was only a single Transmission Fault message on the Dashboard info screen, no warning lights or other messages.

The vehicle seems to drive alright once I've done an engine off and on again.

Any help appreciated.

I was going to suggest the gear selector lever, but after reading the post again it sounds like it could be even more serious.... Confused

That sounds like a dealer check is needed TBH. There should be some error codes stored.

I have the same problem. It went in for the safety recall(fuel pump and brakes)last wednesday and the next morning this happend, took it straight back to lr chipperfield who had it for around 90 mins, they said it was the brake switch that was faulty and was probably damaged during the recall works, they replaced it and the car was fine untill tonight when all the warning lights and messages came on whilst on the motorway, all the rear suspension lowered aswell. Big Cry Back to chipperfield again the morning!!!! Banging Head

Sounds like the selector arm cable retention bush is binding, relatively easy fix involving lots of lube and a wire brush Shocked
