The AVC setting ranges from Off to 9 in scale. When I go into seetings to adjust the AVC from 1 through to 9 the volume from the speakers doesn't change. I tried the same thing in a brand new D3 at the Dealers. Suffice to say with AVC set at 9 (the maximum I presume) I still have to manually fiddle with the radio. Othe cars, most noticeable Fords, when the AVC is adjusted do get louder. Am I doing soemthing wrong or is there a seting elsewhere that I haven't enabled? All comments recieved gladly. D3 HSE, Stornoway grey, 2007 MY, side steps, privacy glass, door protection strips.

ISTR from reading the handbook (  ) that the AVC has to be activated by the dealer. Probabaly, if activated, then your subsequent adjusting of the volume will have an effect.
Land Rover does seem to have a rather eccentric approach to all things electronic.

I'm not sure that it needs to be set very high, since the D3 is pretty quiet and the AVC is designed to overcome the increased noise which comes with increased speed (isn't it?).
When you say a "new car at the dealers" do you mean a new car being driven fast? If not, why should you hear any difference?

Well I suppose that function is only for the high finished ones.
Because on my XS I cannot remember seen such a setting.

On mine it works well between about 20 and 50, but beyond that speed the noise of the rack (or more likely the lights) overcome any volume increase, so I manually adjust it. Craig

Ian 2206 : Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but I wouldn't expect the AVC to adjust the volume with the car sitting still. It should just turm up the volume when the ambient noise in the cabin increases (ie with speed). The setting for the AVC just adjusts the sensetivity of the system.
Again - apologies if I have misunderstood your post. Too much intellectual firepower can damage your common sense.

I find the AVC just right set mid-way.. It is quite subtle, it does not suddenly crank up the volume at a set speed, it increases it subtly the faster you go.

The D3 is a very quiet vehicle at all speeds, so you wont notice the change in volume compared to most vehicles  In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Gareth, do you find with the vehicle stationary that when you adjust the AVC you can hear a noticeable volume change following the AVC setting i.e. as you move from 1 to 9 the radio volume increases and as you move from 9 back to 1 the volume decreses? this is my experince in other types of car, but not what I'm experiencing in the D3.
NHR, I cant find any reference in the handbook to the feature being Dealer enabled. Can you advise where you have seen this, please. D3 HSE, Stornoway grey, 2007 MY, side steps, privacy glass, door protection strips.

Ian - have a read of your manual, it explains it exactly as you've been told by everyone in this thread 
Remember that the AVC increase is proportional and not a fixed offset as per the Information Offset.
If the D3 is not moving (i.e. it's speed is zero), then you won't notice any increase the volume level whether you have the AVC level set or not....
Here's a quote from the manual which explains it pretty well:
The Owners Manual wrote:AVC (Automatic Volume Control) adjusts the volume level to allow for the changes in road noise as the vehicle speed increases or decreases.
Note: The AVC value (0-9) represents the volume increase, and not the volume level.
The volume increase is proportional to speed increase. If the AVC level is set to zero, there will be no volume increase. An AVC setting of 1 will increase the volume by a small amount as the vehicle speed increases. An AVC setting of 9 will increase the volume by a large amount as the vehicle speed increases.
The AVC setting required will depend upon the expected speed (high or low) and the expected road conditions (rough or smooth). To access the AVC Level settings, press the Tone button for approximately five seconds until the current AVC Level setting is displayed.
Use the rotary control to increase or decrease the value.

Thanks a lot for that info.
Yesterday, I had a look at my computer, I have plenty of features like, MPG, Reserve Auto Dimming mirrors, Overspeed warning...) but no AVC...
I will have a look in the manual because I amy have look in the wrong menu if all vehicule has it.

You need to look in the settings in the menu of the radio, not the on-board computer (the 'i' button)....

The tone button is the one with the music sign on it, above the INFO button...
