Battery and/or Alternator? Advice welcome |
|
Hi
Yesterday the battery light came on in Disco 3.
Still on today so I've checked the 5 amp alternator fuse and put the multimeter on the battery terminals.
Engine off I get 12.20 volts
Engine running I get 13.37 volts with no difference whether it's idling or revving quite high both give 13.37 volts.
Does this point to an alternator problem?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

If the battery light is on, its probably the alternator
It's clearly doing something though, from the readings
Only replace with denso brand,
The battery lights on these have a bit of a delay, so make sure you run the car for a few minutes after messing with the 5A fuse

Just been out in it for a test.
The battery light is on for a while then goes off then back on...
Slowly failing alternator? Dodgy connection somewhere?
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Battery.... same reading as mine was before I replaced it. If you can put on charge...if it isn't 12.7 it's goosed( but still could be a failing alternator which has caused it)
Any other faults showing when ignition on ?

I've swapped the battery with one my brother had new last year and hasn't used. So far the red light was on for a bit but now gone away...
fingers crossed.
