An update... after 8+ hours it has moved on to Step 2 and now Step 3.
Looking good, clearly some significant Sulphur deposits built up that have now been zapped.
Fingers crossed looking good.

Hi, did this work for the SS battery?
Might give mine a go with the CTEK if it did?
Cheers

Still a work in progress.
It moved on nicely with the charging but eventually got stuck at STEP 5 indicating difficulty in holding on to the charge.
I have had some great support from CTEK and they have said rerun the process and it might come good as the battery runs through Desulphation and then full charge again.
Back on charge as of 8am this morning, I will update the thread once results are known.

Stuck the SS battery on charge this morning and it rattled up through the CTEK phases to fully charged in an hour or so, including the recondition phase.
Battery now sitting at 13.94v.
No error came up which may suggest it’s either in good nick and something else is preventing the SS kicking in or the battery has just had it in another way.
The last time the SS worked was after a road trip to the outer Hebrides last year when we were driving 4-5 hours a day for 5 days on the trot.
The main battery appears to be ok, sitting at 13.6v and taking charge as expected through the tow electrics.
🤔

Attempting first charge of the smaller Start Stop battery with the CTEK MXS 10.
It’s been running for over 7 hours now and has NOT progressed from the Desulphation STEP 1. Although the error lamp is not lit.
I’m thinking that’s looking like a duff battery. Anyone else had a similar experience but found it comes right eventually?
There has deffo been a sulphur smell so I’m thinking it’s doing something.
I did read on google about the CTEK’s been a bit temperamental if the earth connection isn’t good. I think I am pretty well anchored on with the crocodile clips.
Is it ok to charge this battery this way? I thought the negative had to be on a chassis earth and not the battery itself, or is that just for the main battery?

My understanding is that applies to the main battery due to the BMS.
I traced the Negative back and it just runs to earth on the SS battery.
Mine had been on charge three days now, no particular reason, stop start hasn’t worked since the last time on charge, then works for a few days then stops working, still sleeping ok.
Charging with the CTEK MX10, for three days, after one day all lights bar the last light, two more days, still hasn’t managed to light the final light, stop start now working though.

CTEK support suggested this config.
Thanks for that. Just one more thing while we’re on the subject of charging, if you charge your battery through the tow electrics, can you leave the car locked up and the alarm on?

Looks like the SS battery is gonna need replacing:
The CTEK rattled through the charging phase but has failed at the “can the battery hold on to the charge” step.
Question:
How do I undo the fixing over the top of the positive terminal as shown in the photo?

When I got my Ctek 5, it came with the connections for a quick plug-in. Having read through this thread, I’m hoping mine’s in the right place. Where the earth lead comes up to the battery, it’s connected to a thick metal plate that passes under the BMS module to where I’ve connected it (the black plastic on the right of the picture with the -ve embossed). Perhaps one of you guys could say “yay” or “nay” please?

IMHO you need to move the charger negative cable on the arrowed nut...
otherwise BMS doesn't "listen" the charging phase (must be connected on chassis ground, not negative battery pole).

Hi dgardel,
Thank for the reply. I can do that, but looking at where the earth lead is connected, that’s to a thick metal plate that passes under the BMS to where I’ve connected it. It then goes back under the BMS to the -ve battery terminal (not where I’ve connected it). If I can open the ring terminal from the Ctek, I’ll Aswan it to the -ve lead.
