Battery isolator switch

Hello all, first post for me.
Just got my 2005 lr3 end of November and boy what a vehicle! Loving it so far but do have a question regarding power.

I work offshore for upto 2 months away, judging from the amount of power the thing draws I'm guessing it won't like being left standing for that long without starting and diving it so was wondering if it's be worth chucking a battery isolator in. That way I can quickly and easily discconect the battery and hopefully save it from slowly dropping power.

What's your thoughts all?[/i]

Well yes.

Cars are only designed to stand for 30 days and these are partcicularly power hungary.

If you have a mains 240v supply near the car, the prefered option is a CTEK battery charger, to keep it topped up. (e.g the 5).

Otherwise an isolator or solar charger on the dash connected to the diag port.

Not much room around the battery for an isolator really.

I've fitted a solar panel to the roof of the D4 to keep my leisure battery topped up.
However, once that's charged, my relay switches over to top up the main battery.
Though this can be fitted directly to charge the main battery.

But a another way is to fit a Lensun bonnet mounted solar panel.

Discojase has one fitted for the exact same reasoning ......he's away for long periods of time.

Got any details on your install available?
Always thought about putting a solar panel under the rear sunroof as a permanent trickle charger.
Obviously the panel would be less efficient but should do the job?

Make sure that you can manually lock and unlock the vehicle (which you will have to do if the battery is flat or has been isolated) as it may not have been done in the 18 years or so since the vehicle was manufactured.

I have fitted a battery isolator switch to mine for this reason about 5 years ago. I have it on the grill and just lock the car then turn the big red key and remove it.
I put it in between the cable that goes to the fuse box.

Its a great help now being retired as sometimes I dont use the car for three or four weeks.
Good shout out about making sure the passenger manual unlock works before doing it.

Flack Thumbs Up
