hi guys,
i have a 05 disco 3, 2.7td6, auto
on friday the battery light came on for a short time and then went off again, everything appeared ok and the car was starting fine. i stopped at the post office and when i came out the battery was totally flat, something was draining a hughe amount of power, there was an electrical burnign smell and when i tried to jump start the car there was smoke. i got the car down to a local mechanic and he stripped the alternator which required a rectifier and regulator. The regulator didnt present a problem but we are having problems getting a rectifier to repair the alternator.
I have two questions, 1 ) from experience is this likely to be the problem or is it likely that something else has caused the alternator to go faulty. 2) any recommendations for sourcing a replacement rectifier, i am located in belfast so mail order will be important.

thats exactly what nick said when i called him, they can only supply the complete unit as oppossed to the parts required to repair my alternator. If i cant get sorted tomorrow with parts i will have to go for the complete unit. By any chance bodsy do you know of any suppliers for alternator parts.
