Do you have a D4 or D3?

Do you think the crank has gone? Hope you get recovered quickly

Well LR have dodged that nicely - It's not a safety issue and doesn't warrant a recall Shocked

Normal LR I think, their warranties are useless and customer care is abysmal

Mines a runout model 2009 D3

Ironically I chose it over a D4 as i thought the crank was likely to be less stressed than the 3.0 in the D4

Haven’t been able to watch the Watchdog yet so hopefully will get time to see it once the recovery truck finally arrives- 4 hours and still waiting!

So who are the 219 discovery owners who *have* been recalled in the UK then? Confused

I don't think Watchdog know what they are talking about tbh ...the recalls in other countries eg Korea were not carried out on the basis of safety ...the regulations differ in those countries and a recall can be done on the basis of checking for defects rather than safety.

The fact that they have had several weeks to track down owners who have suffered crank failure through the forums etc and only had "dozens" of reports rather than hundreds or thousands is also telling.

IMO BMW and DVSA came out worse than any others mentioned tbh....no smoking gun for JLR.

I agree, DG... I think the focus of the report was mostly on UK recalls that haven't been pursued aggressively enough by manufacturers, they dipped into the differences between countries thing but didn't then dig deep enough on the specific LR case so the point kind of got lost on the way.

229 recalls were probably for crank sensors or tow bars
Or 2 litre diesel

Humm. Still a low number

Probably all they could get thru loyers.

P.s. I don’t think I would like to be told I can’t drive my car for weeks until a part arrived and is fitted.

I wonder if 'freedom of information' can get us the #failures , must be thousands globally. Or someone on the inside.

The older ones I doubt are formally recorded.

if the crank goes at 70 in the fast lane...can you imagine....and that's not a safety issue..

You only have to work from the sales figures vs average failure rates from the likes of warranty direct to see that the numbers of overall engine failures should be in the region of 5-6 thousand.

As for Galwaygreens point ...anything can happen in the fast lane however that doesn't make it a safety issue because in law all others should be driving their vehicles with the anticipation of vehicles suddenly braking or stopping in front of them.
