Well… last year I saw Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear advertising this type of use for cooking oil, so I was thinking something bad was happening up there…

That's what the book says, but the same engine in the Jag S Type can run on bio.

dont think the problem is the engine itself but the fuel system or something. someone who knows in detail will explain im sure

Hi all,
First post on this excellent site. 6 months of D3 ownership, and no major problems yet (tempting fate!).
I read the '07 Owner's Manual re Biodiesel, and wondered what the differences might be compared to my '06. I rang Land Rover's main Customer Services to ask this question. I explained that I was thinking about 5% Biodiesel, not old chip fat. They spoke to 'someone in Engineering', and then advised me that there would in fact be no problem with 5% in a 06 TDV6....
No warranty with this info, so please, no lawsuits if your seals turn to gum!
Interesting though...I think I might risk it if it became necessary.

ISTR reading somewhere recently that most diesel in Euroland contains 5% Biodiesel as standard anyway The End

I think you're right. France, for instance, but can't confirm that (anyone?). I spend a lot of time in Belgium, where as much as can discover is that it is to EN590 standard, which AFAIK allows for 5%. I raised the question with Land Rover because the prohibition in the '06 manual is firm but non-specific, and the new '07 wording might suggest a change. I would like to feel that there would be no problems either with the car or any subsequent warranty claim. I believe 5% should be the norm in Europe by 2010 - I'd hope that the '05 and '06 cars would still be running then.....
