What the beep are they smoking? (hotel rant)
Looking at various hotels in Singapore and am now becoming obsessed with checking that the en-suite facilities are not separated from the hotel room by a sheet or two of glass. No blinds, just glass. As asked, WTbeep are they smoking?

I have seen houses where the "master bedroom suite" has the bathroom section unseparated from the bed area - not even a glass panel. The toilet is effectively just in the bedroom.
No idea how people can consider that to be a good idea.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Some of the hotels I stay in have this glass wall thing but a switch on the wall that flips the panels between transparent and opaque which is better.D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

I was also going to point out some of the glass walls can be turned opaque with a switch. Hotel i used in Hyderabad had this option.

No mention of this option anywhere, wouldn’t want to bet on it. When we’re looking at or discussing a certain hotel the first thing I’m doing is looking for a pic of the room to see what the big wall arrangement is. Someone on blog says it’s most embarrassing when sharing a room with a work work colleague.

In KL I had once a hotel which had an all glass wall window. I think it was the Hilton on top of KLIA Express. Not sure how much one could see from the outside in but as it was on ~30 floor or something I wasn’t too worried about voyeurs.
You kind of get used to it, though. I don’t usually have a say in choice of hotels.
Neither Conrad Singapore or Intercontinental Singapore - at least not in the heritage wing which is REALLY nice and has a early 20th century feel to it - have glass between bath and rest of the room(s).
Edit: we don’t have a room sharing policy either.. once three of us had a yacht for ourselves but that was at MWC time in Barcelona and with insane room rates so the boat was cheaper in the end. And much cooler of course.

Wouldn't do for me, I need privacy whilst in the little room.
I'm not up to anything other than the usual but just require privacy whilst in there.

@kajtzu SWMBO has dropped more hints about the Intercontinental Singapore than the Yanks dropped bombs on Hanoi so might be heading that way.
PS Will look at the Conrad. Other thought is the Hyatt on Orchard Rd.

Mandarin Oriental in Raffles Avenue is nice and they have proper bathrooms (unless they’ve changed in the past 2 years).

Unfortunately well above our budget, if it’s got a 1 as first digit (cost/night) that’s good, a 3 is way above the pain threshold. Stayed in the MO Hong Kong many years ago and got upgraded to a suite, fantastic hotel and fantastic city.

I remember my old man working on some swanky flat in London about 20 years ago and they were doing this. He went back to the clerk of works about 3 times questioning that there really wasn’t going to be a wall.
