Bench testing height sensors? More than one type?

Hi,

Anyone know how to bench test height sensors, I seem to have more than one type fitted to my car.

Thanks in advance,
Ken

I think if it was me, I would have located the ECU (above drivers pedals I think, or near)
and measured the signal voltage returning from each sensor to see if in sensible range

I would have programmed the key to do height changes and then lowered the car and see if all values lowered. (monitor the sensor they are complaining about while moving)

and then raise to off road height, and check all values sensible.

If you see something wrong, investigate from there. by:

1. checking the sensors has a good 5v
2. checking the earth is good
3. checking the signal wire is continuous

The wiring diagrams don't give any clues that the fronts are different. But there was no need to really remove the fronts.

Hi Pete,

thanks for the input. Smile

I'm just looking for how to test the functionality of a sensor. Some seem to be rheostats, some electronic.

Cheers

When I replaced mine due to a fault all four had different part numbers, also worth checking the connector common place for water ingress causing issues, as one had done on mine.

Sadly, not "don't worry"!

The sensor set I bought from AF were all of the type fitted to my front suspension. I fitted them assuming the change on the rears would be invisible to the car, but it certainly was not. I got C1A74-1C (AF) faults immediately on both rear sensors, a red suspension warning on the dash, and told to limit my speed to 30mph!

Interestingly, refitting the original sensors on the rears was acceptable to my car.

So, does anyone know if there's a way of "teaching" my car to accept the electronic style of rear height sensor?
