Big guns rival - The Hummer
Although most wouldn't even consider it a rival to the D3... it was still a pretty spectacular sight in the middle of a car park full of 'ordinary' vehicles. The Gyle shopping centre in Edinburgh, a full fat Hummer (H2?). Even more dramatic was the yellow paintwork, and all the 'bits'. And, my god, it's tall.

And almost certainly one of the reasons people hate 4x4s - and we all get tarnished with the same brush

Very common on this side of the pond. They are actually a quite competent, if rather crude off-road vehicle. The H2 was on my short list of vehicles to consider when I bought the LR3. What sold me was the refinement of the LR3.
I saw an H2 in Cheshire last year in the parking lot of the Inn I was staying at. Left hand drive too! My first thought was that here was someone who had entirely too much money on his hands. Cost of petrol alone for this machine must be astronomical in England! Not to mention the inconvenience of left hand drive on the lanes of England.
Unless you're a hard-core off roader and need a lot of room they are only marginally practical here out West.'06 LR3 4.4 V8 HSE Heavy Duty package, Satellite Radio, Luxury Package

They look really big, but is there really much more space inside a Hummer than a D3/LR3? I remember looking inside one here in Spain after making sure it's neanderthal-looking owner had turned the corner first.....the exterior size didn't really seem to translate well to the interior...
Nice find though CY....why oh why would they order one in this colour though and then park it across two spaces....it's asking for trouble

Can you imagine a Tangiers Orange Disco towing a Canary Yellow Hummer?

The H2 is far too underpowered. Handles badly. Has even worse brakes. Rolls a lot round corners. Has far, far less interior space than a D3. Achieves about 10mpg. Has a cheap feel to the interior. Build quality and design features are suspect.
When asked about it, which was a fairly common occurrence, I used to compare it to a Land Rover Defender.
Given its design, a Defender shouldn't really be a good vehicle, however, as with the H2, the sum of the parts actually seems to work and driving it was quite fun.
That said, the H2 is far, far better vehicle than the H3, which manages to be worse at everything than the H2.

I thought only the original (H1?) was a hard-core offroader; the H2 and H3 being cynical cash-ins on the name/brand to appeal to the tarmac-pounding footballer/rap-star. Having seen either an H2/H3, I was also surprised at the 'reverse-tardis' quality of the vehicle. Seemed better suited for trasnporting Grumpy, Dopey et al. in cheap comfort.Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana
