Very odd.

If I listened to what others said about my choice of cars I would never have ever owned a land rover

surprised me too

its one thing buying something new & nice + it works fine, we all sort of expect that. The way it should be
then the excitement of something new is spoilt by others having issues or its not just as good as expected.
Must be very disappointing. id be gutted.
I suppose he may be thinking the issue are pending - will happen to me.
this early in may get a good trade in.
Theres at least one other who's rejecting.

the way I look at things we are in a small minority here, how many owners of land rovers are there worldwide
yes they have problems, when I decided to look at a D3 I made phone calls to local indie owner and was told if you get a good un then you will be happy
I have been a forum member for about 6 weeks and nothing has hit me hard as re-occuring problems.
yes Land rover vehicles have problems reported on here but there are far more vehicles out there with owners than members on here
if a vehicle has problems then they get written about on internet if a vehicle does not have problems then nothing said.
way up the odds and Land Rover comes out on top
I love my D3 already looking to upgrade D4
if the owner did not like his D5 then ask the question did he do his homework on the vehicle first.
1 bad review does not make a bad vehicle

But a new car and the question always arises if you follow the forums
Should I keep it or swap it for something else that's more reliable?
My experience is that whatever car you own it has generally has major issues according to some of the owner forums
Saab 95 3 litre Diesel engine issues mine did over 176k miles and no problems and according to mid website is still on the road after over 15 years

Merc c class 250d - major issues with injectors failing, but after 92k miles when I changed it it had been totally reliable with no issues apart from one rear light bulb and new wiper blades and was still going when I recently saw it locally.
Freelander 2 diesel manual - major issues with gearbox - no problems with mine after 3.5 years, before trading in for current disco4.
Current disco 4 landmark is a fantastic car, but note the concerns on the forum about engine failures, however given the numbers of fantastic condition older D2, D3, and D4 on the road and going strong. Should I be concerned?
Looked at a Jeep but depreciation is horrible, reckon lower depreciation on the disco would cover the cost of a new engine if needed!
It's a pity there isn't a "how wonderful my car" thread on the forums to help counteract the negative issues - although LR and other manufacturers could and should be a lot more proactive in this area to reduce doubts and assure owners about long term reliability and assist owners - this proactive approach would be far more productive and cost effective than the massive advertising campaigns they indulge in.

Intend to keep mine for a good few years as so far, it's been an absolutely fantastic car, although some of the technology may be a little old hat it should by now be well proven. Fingers crossed it stays reliable.
Pity they can't make a touch up paint though!

From looking at previous threads, I think this chap was a bit sensitive anyway, so I wouldn't read too much into it. However, some other owners are having some real issues and the dealers seem to be incapable of solving them and their service / support levels seem woeful. Its not great for the LR brand as a premium marque.

It'll be interesting to see how the residuals of these early cars fair. I'm not sure if the vehicle truly reflects the price tag; £70k+ is a lot of money for a generic looking SUV, even if it carries a LR badge and has the off-road capability it claims. Particularly when its given away some of the unique selling points it had over other cars, the practicality element being just one. Anyway, time will tell. I hope they get it right with the Defender, but LR's launch record isn't great.

I'm certain he won't sell it...he just needed some (re) comforting that he already received! I'd also tell him to keep it!

Besides, his D5 is trouble free and is one of the best looking around (this is for you PeterW)! Wink Very Happy

He's selling his car because some people on the internet said they don't like it?
