First let me say thanks to all for this site....brilliant information.
My questions relates to use of bio diesel. I think the vehicle hand book says the bio-diesel is not suitable. However, forcourts are often selling diesel with %'s of bio-diesel. Should I avoid bio-diesel?
Happy and safe new year to all.

A percentage of Biodiesel in the fuel is a good thing - especially in this weather as it displays higher lubricity than normal diesel and so resists freezing better Peter, are you drunk? No, I'm just exhaused cos I've been up all night drinking...

My employer allows us to purchase DERV from them at their cost price, usually between 76-79p per litre, but of late it was 83p litre. It is a 80-20% Bio, 20% being Bio and mine runs fine. Its not a question whether it will run cos it will, but its the seals in the pump cannot handle it (I think).

biod is fine as long as its been made to a good standard. What causes problems is when its not been made properly and methanol is in the solution, this eats rubber.

As pom said.
We spoke to a manufacturer of a home making Bio-fuel kit that said if made correctly bio-diesel is perfectly ok for use in the Discovery 3. He said even used cooking oil if processed correctly was also ok to use.
So it seems to be a matter of trusting whoever processes the fuel that is the main problem

LR say no. So if under warranty you run the risk of of problems if claiming for a fuel issue. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I make my own Biodiesel and have now done 40000 miles in my 2000 TD5 Discovery with no problems. So all the comments from people saying its not possible to use Biodiesel in a TD5 obviously havnt tried it. The injectors have been fine and there is only one fuel pump which is in the fuel tank and only cost £50 on ebay. I will also be using Bio in my 2008 D3 once its on the road.

The general concensus with Td5 was that it has to be perfectly clean of any debris, as they tend to block the filter up, and can also cause issues with injector nozzles.
It is highly unlikely there is anyone on here running a TDV6 long term on Bio, due to the fine tolerances of the common rail system, and high repair costs, should it all go wrong My D3 Build Thread

Ok pal thanks for that. My Bio is 2 stage titration process and water washed. I filter it to 1 micron. The Disco 3 will be running on it long term so I will add details of sucess or problems.

The EU requires fuel manufacturers to use 7% bio-fuel in their products, IIRC, but this can be done by using more in some fuels and less in others. That's why you see blends at the pumps. Problems can arise when the ratio of bio-to-fossil increases, but the devil is in the detail, here. The details are at:
