With the increasing availability of bio diesel and general rantings on the subject does aneyone know
why it should not be used in the TDV6, ? except that the owners manual says not to use it.
My questions are,
Is it a case of some rubber components are not compatable.?
Is the engine not tuned to use it (can it be ) ?
Did LR just think bio diesel was not relevent ?
With the increasing emphasis on the enviroment and the long term situation one day we will have to
seriousely consider BIO DIESEL.
So does aneyone have some ideas on the subject

Hi
Bio diesel soften seals in a way that normal diesel does not. I have heard it has to do with the high fuel pressure on modern engines combined with non compatible seals.

It also depends on the mix of bio diesel....simply mixing 5% bio diesel with normal diesel is enough to claim you are selling bio diesel

G'day Rob - I bought my TDV6 with the full knowledge that petrol would become a scarcer resource in the time I intend to keep the D3.
From news articles, etc. I knew that diesel had a better chance of being synthesised or even blended (and therefore extended) from bio derivatives. For example, tallow and other waste vegetable oils.
Even the owner's manual for my TDV6 makes mention of biodiesel but specifically states that use of it would affect warranty claims. I suspect this is because the engine was designed to run on a very refined form of diesel meeting exacting standards and that not all manufacturers of biodiesel are going to bother making sure their fuel meets those standards. BTW, owner manuals for D3 models produced after mine do mention the use of up to 5% biodiesel as being OK.
Also, I have read about a development called SunDiesel that does sound promising. Essentially it is produced in a process from biomass (like straw, etc.) but the greatest benefit is that it can be used in an unmodified diesel engine without any detrimental effects and with lower emissions as a bonus. It definitely sounds promising.

* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

Thanks for the imformation on bio diesel.
I wil ask my dealer what they know next time it has a service  sometimes it can be like geting blood
out of stone
This time it may be better with a new service manager who seems to be willing to talk.

Rob,
Go to the source and ask LRA via your Dealer's Service Manager or their Service Team Leader(S).
They only need to forward on your email request.
Should be no big deal for them.
I did this and got back a reply within the day.

Thanks that is what I wil do.
Although this is just out of interest at the moment I feel bio diesel wil be an issue in the future.
As I plan to keep the Disco for a long wile and spending a lot on accesorys to get what I like in
a FWD I dont wont to replace it too soon.
