Bit worried looking at the amount of D4 faults

Hi,

I have a D4 XS on order and come from a history of Disco's ~ 300TDi, TD5 and currently a D3 TDV6.

All from new, none let me down and none ever went back into the dealer ~ other than for servicing and the recent D3 Brake Servo recall ~ each averaging 35000 miles a piece.

The more I look through this Forum, there seems to be an endless list of D4 faults/problems Big Cry and I am now slightly perturbed that I should maybe have stayed with the D3.

Anyone out there got a D4 without problems?

Please say there are. Neutral

no problems with our two and D4 problems are nothing compared with D3 ones on this forum. The only issues I have seen have been linked to an important upgrade. However, your factory fresh one will have all of this sorted. I have had 5 D3's and problems with all of them. The D4's are a class apart. Don't worry Wink

but forums are where people come for advice on their broken cars. I wonder how many people out there with D4's who don't use the forum are having no trouble at all?

I wouldn't worry tbh!

Mine has been in for the assurance issue which cleared the global opening/closing issue. It is currently been looked at for poor fuel consumption and LR suspect a fault with an EGR valve. This has not caused the car to fail (should not have said that should I) and I am still using it, just waiting for the parts to come in. I would not say that they are any more problamatic than any other new car I have purchased if anything they have been more problamatic than the D4. I love it and would suggest you do not worry. Thumbs Up

2000 miles on my D4, 1 month old, only problem has been with the iPod connection (and some litte Censored keying my bonnet!), otherwise so far so good...

Russell, interested on what would be classed as "poor fuel consumption" on the D4?

I wouldn't worry. People only generally post things that go wrong. I have had 15 Land Rover vehicles over the years and this is by far the best Very Happy

You will love it when it arrives. Thumbs Up

Had mine since the 31st Jan done 2500 miles no problems really. Going for software update on the 5th May. Getting 31 mpg with mixed driving. The only problem I am having is back ache, which strikes me as odd given the seating.

Deflate the seat lumbar cushions, you can do that with the big button above the seat move forward/backward button. I had the same yesterday untill I found the inflate/deflate lumbar support button.

Had mine for >2,000 miles and only probs I've had are:

- Rather erratic USB playback (which I supsect is more to do with the USB or how I put the files onto it vs the car)

- Top boot lid doesn't close properly every time

- Mrs chopdogs reversing it into the tow hitch of our Defender (to which I said "How did you manage to do that?) Interestingly, neither car was damaged Thumbs Up

Not exactly significant issues

I agree with J@mes - you are seeing a lot of posts on issues because it's a forum. Bit like going to a hospital and seeing a large number of ill people Wink

Almost 10,000 miles on ours and it has been fine.

Just had the assurance program work done but could not tell any difference afterwards.

Don't worry, just count the days! Mr. Green

Meandorris >4000 miles on mine now and getting 22/23 to the gallon measured on fil up to fill up and not using the on board computer, this is driving like Miss Daisey. Was getting 28/29 for first 2000 miles. Intrestingly getting about .5 mpg more when towing a large twin axle caravan on our last two trips out !!!!!!!!!!!!!! To be honest the fuel consumption is not a great issue considering the small mileage I do. However it is a little concerning that it has dropped of suddenly. Car is still great and always gives Mr. Green So do not be concerned you will love it and it will be great.

I don't have a D4 but i do have an IDS system and am very plugged in to what is currently going on re the D4 and RRS and believe i can add some useful comment based on my past and current observation that might help.

In 2005 when the D3 and RRS was first introduced there was also the usual plethora of problems, as there seems to always be on any new model / technology introduction. Most of these simply required software tweaks to fix, however the introduction of these software fixes was delayed due to the fact that they were delivered to dealers by DVDs that were only periodically sent out. Thus meaning that new D3 owners visiting dealers might only get updates that could be up to 6 months old. I saw such software fixes being introduced up to 2 years after the models introduction and only slowly petering out. It has been some years now since any there was any significant D3 fix released

However along with the D4 and 2010 RRS introduction, the IDS has been changed to an on line mechanism for updates which is of course is right up to the minute. This means that fixes are much more quickly introduced and presently the number of systems that a dealer is instructed to update prior to delivery is mind blowing.

This improved distribution meathod for software upgrades means that any D4 and RRS problems will likely be ironed out in record time compared to its D3 and RRS predecessor.

Like PaulP, i would therefore be sleeping very soundly if i were lucky enough to have a D4 in the garage.
