Site Sponsor, Pete Bell (member name "bellautos"), has been doing some work towards blanking EGR valves on later model year cars. He's just up the road from you in York. Might be worth a chat to find out what the current status of his project is before you go ahead with the replacement.
His website is: http://bellautoservices.co.uk
Disco_Mikey has a great guide to replacing EGR valves here should you decide to go down the replacement route.

Steve,
At the moment I'm not getting too much grief from the egr, I'm sure it's nicely on it's way out though. I've just had a quick look at Pete's site, I once bought a boat from Waterline Leisure, so I know the industrial estate well. I'll be up to York in about 3 weeks, so I'll pop in and have a word. Thanks for the thread, I'm sure it's going to be worth hanging on.
Regards
Andy.

Awkward more than difficult spray bolts
With penatrating oil and let soak in
Took about 3 hours knit I had a bolt that didn't want to come out
And had yo take my time as didn't want to shear it or round it off
Job done
Seems to be breathing a bit better
Weekends are to short
Egr valves removed

I did my EGR blanking last night and it took me an hour and half.
Yes fiddly but BAS has superb instructions.Yes mine were "Crudded" up. Yes I lost a gasket down the engine bay but a handy tool is the telescopic magnet. Also the wire trick to guide the blanking plate and gasket worked a treat.
Good Luck all.
Does anyone know if this invalidates a warranty?(non LR)

Hi guys,
My local LR specialist does the EGR valve blanking off kits, supplied and fitted on post 2007 TDV6's. He has a "guy" who comes in and does the engine management software remap which sorts out the fault problem. He also carries out the performance enhancement mods to the management system at the same time.
Not cheap tho.....£350.
I'll be speaking to him next week about me doing the EGR Valve blanking and getting him to do the digital wizardry. From the figures he was talking, should save £ 100.
Tells me they get 5 to 7 more mpg and tons better performance if you need it.

Blanked mine off this morning - took 1hr 15mins from bonnet open to engine start after apart from spraying all the bolts with WD40 last night. Managed to break 3 8mm sockets getting the bolts out of the right-hand (off-side in UK) pipe flange, but taking the cover off the second battery box gave just enough room to get the extensions straight enough to get my final 8mm socket onto the bolts to get them out. Other than that it's a straight forward job - putting the car into access height before starting helped too.
Let's see what the next few days bring in running terms & yes it was well gunked up in the plenum chamber - maybe that'll clean up without the exhaust gasses going back in there for a few weeks, time will tell

I find the price of some of these blanking kits quite astonishing, as long as you don't need to remove the link pipe from the egr valve due to fracture etc. it can be done for 2 pence!
Release the spring clip from the link pipe near the plenum chamber pull pipe back insert a 1 penny piece ( preferably a magnetic one, makes it easyer for removal) re-position the pipe refit the spring clip job done 5 mins tops.
EGR blanking kit for 2PENCE!

Can you tell by looking if someone has already done the EGR valves? If so, what are you looking for? with a occasional Bailey Unicorn Valencia tintent
...and an equally black SL350

EGR blanking kit for 2PENCE!
Save 2p now and pay the price in the future of--------------------------a new engine.
The metal that is the 2p is made from gets eaten away by the gases in the exhaust over time. When it falls apart, it gets sucked into the engine. Sure they cost 2p!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
