Blind Spot Monitoring Wiring

Does anyone know if the wiring is in place for Blind spot monitoring when not factory fitted?

I know there are 2 radar units below the lights each side and the extra stuff in the mirror, only really the glass connector and lighting.

There is talk of a private can bus - but im not sure whether thats still wiring that is there on any HSE or HSE lux of the same age?

Getting blind spot on a d4 seems like a hard proposition (although i spec'd it on everyone i had) but adding it, even if it cost £1k might be more realistic - i know how much the components are, so its just the wiring (and enabling - i am hoping this can be done on an autologic type sytem)

Any pointers welcome

Thanks

Can't help you specifically with the D4 ..but the D5 has a similar system and I can't imagine the two setups are that far apart...

Quote:
There are two Blind Spot Monitoring Control Modules (BMCM) and they are located in
the corner of the rear bumper, one on each side.
Each BMCM connector has power, ground, High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network
(CAN) chassis bus wires, and two private CAN wires.
DESCRIPTION
The system uses two radar sensors; they are incorporated in each of a BMCMs, and are
connected via a private Controller Area Network (CAN) bus to exchange information
with each other.

Thanks

its probably the same system on all of them

It hinges on the wiring, if its there, then its just plug and enable (yes more the £700 factory option but not extreme), in fact adding in wade sensing is possible if replacing the mirror housing... if the wiring isnt there then its a waste of money and time.

From what I recall from installing the trailer electrics harness on my current D4, I had to bypass the rear left radar unit under the bumper and I'm pretty sure that the wiring from the radar unit ran back to the harness connections inside the loadspace left cubby\ side cover.

I suspect that the female connectors are on the main loom in that location and the radar units have their own length of loom to feed back to them. Confused

I can’t see a loom on the units ive seen, so possibly an extension or it’s all tucked up in there. Word is they only had one loom.

If I tick this off it’s the door mirror next! Again assuming replacement mirror unit is plug and play in the door loom!

Very interested to see how you progress this - I'd like to do the same.

Please keep us posted - part numbers, pics and any tricks will be very helpful. Thumbs Up
