Glynne
i was thinking as you do sat here this morning
What about the Intercooler hoses ?
we've had issues with the td4(Freelander) hoses and one of our techy's recently said to me to start thinking about keeping the TDV6 hoses instock as we've done a few of those also...
These will give the same impression as turbo failing whilst restricting the performance of the engine
See if you can check them to see if they are really spongy as they could collapse whilst driving but look normal to look at TLO has left the building.......

yes - if it is just feeling down on power but still able to drive decently - doesnot necessary to have to be turbo itself. check the piping for visible cracks/leaks. you can ask someone to make a boost leak test - you need some gadgtes/tool for that to pressurise the system and listen carefully for escaping air. The other option (if disco has MAP sensor built in) - then dealer can see on the diagnostic if the car is reaching the expected pressure levels. 2013 D4 TDV6 S; Baltic Blue; IID Tool BT

I'm trying to picture the turbo hoses on the TDV6 engine without having to go out in the cold, dark and wet to take a look! Are they the standard design rubber turbo hoses like those fitted on the D1 300 tdi engine? If so, anyone know if silicon replacements are available? If they are, they're not going to collapse internally.

yep, intercooler hoses are basically the same design type as the 300tdi versions...I do keep one in stock now for that reason TLO has left the building.......

Sounds as if shelling out for a set of silicon hoses might be money well spent as part of a preventative maintenance regime!
Presume you're just stocking the OEM rubber hoses Nick

Thanks TLO, parts received and fitted today. Took out for test drive and all seems to be working well! All in all, total cost of repair 25 quid!!! Just a tad different from the two and a half grand the stealers were trying to get off me
Cheers to all for the advice and especially to MOOSE and TLO, without you guys my car would still be unwell.
Will be making a site donation.

Very good news Glynne - The Large One strikes again!
Was it just collapsing turbo hoses or also the butterfly issue?

What a great result Glynne. As mine is coming up to that age (and I had a 300Tdi Disco that did exactly the same with its turbo hose - just after it was serviced??????? by the main dealer!!!! not obvious as the outside of the hose was fine but the inner skin was collapsing with clouds of smoke ut the back and no power) I will keep an eye on mine. Which hose/es exactly did you change?
As I said in my earlier post having had a turbo failure yours did not sound like it could be that as it would not have dragged the itself back home let alone the caravan.
regards
Gilbo

It turned out to be a nice easy fix, blanked off the egr and removed the butterfly.

So it was egr failure then?
Has anyone tried to clean up a failed egr, to see if it will work again?
