has anyone managed to polishout scratches on top break rear tailgate light?

is it not a red unit with a black layer on it ? if you see red, the black needs recoating. guessing it's some "specioal" paint ?

i will try to polish it out might be surface transfer from other thing which hit it
i am lucky light still works as it is PITA to swap
