Body Kit Bumper & Wheel Arches Fitted Inc Piano Black Tr
Well last night entailed the fitting of the new front bumper and wheel arches on my fathers D3.
I had arranged for a friend to do this, seeing as he knows what he's doing. Just over 2.5 hrs later it was finished. My father is absolutely delighted with the new look his Disco has and that's the main thing.
I still have the rear kit to fit, although the bumper is coming off on Monday evening and goes to be painted on Tuesday. Hopefully i should be able to fit the kit whilst still in the paint shop and use the oven/booth to keep the temps up fo rthe Sikoflex to cure.

The front PDC's are a new mod, as are the fog lamps.
Was going to get them activated, but thought better of it. The disco will be showing a fault just now with the rears being disconnected. So waiting till the back one's are re connected and get any faults cleared. ATB

Alan have recently bought disco 3 coloured coded in white, but as it is the basic model it does not have front fogs or front PDC so I have bought a front bumper from EBAY fitted with both , I think it is a very big job getting both these additions working? so do you think its worth fitting bumper just for looks, is that what you done with your dads? or i could always sell bumper again on ebay. If anybody out there knows how to connect front fogs and pdc please let me know thanks Matt

Hi Matt & welcome to the forum.
First thing you will need to do is remove the grill, which is very easy, 6 tabs to press and it comes off. Secondly, you need to remove the drivers headlight. Again, very simple to do (and is part of changing any bulb in the unit). There are two tabs at the top of the light unit, pull these up and the lamp should come away. Now you can either unplug the wiring off the back of the lamp unit or just tilt it to the side and look on the car.
If you have two plugs sitting beside one another, then you can fit the fog lamps and front PDC.
Like these..........
The fog lamps require a new headlamp switch, the one inside the car and a small section of wiring harness, which can be sourced through site sponsor The Large One/ Nick.
Front PDC are a slightly different game, in as much as each parking sensor is approx £40 each x 4, plus another small section of harness.
Plug the respective harness into fog lamps, plus new light switch and the fog lamps work straight away. The Parkings sensors PDC's require enabling by someone with a faultmate, Wiggs or similar person.
I fitted a twin harness, which is PDC's and fogs combined and was about the £30 bracket. Same sort of price for the headlamp switch. You should be able to fit the fog lamps and PDC's to your original bumpers, as once it is removed off the car, there is actually marks on the inside, that allow you to make the cut outs for fog lamps and PDC.
Maybe some kind hearted member will be able to supply links of photo's to what I'm trying to say above, as I'm not the greatest with the search facility on here. ATB

Finally got my mate (Cathburn Customs) to start the rear bumper & Interior H Trim Panel & Side Vents.
First was to give everything a wash with some scotch brite, left to dry off, panel wiped and then applying a coat of plastic promoter (plastic primer). Next was just as it was tacking off, two coats of high build primer to remove the grain effect of the bumper.
Whilst at this stage i removed the interior panel around the radio and side vents, removed the vent assemblies and took the bare plastics up to be finished in a high gloss black. Piano Black look.
I will update the thread as the work progresses, long as i don't forget the camera.
Rubbed Wet With Scotch Brite Prior To Plastic Promoter
Plastic Promoter Applied

Nice
Are the Piano Black bits finished? Did he manage to leave it perfect on the the first try?
We make automotive components in Piano Black finish and it is an absolute nightmare to do.....even the smallest imperfection stands out a mile.
It's a very costly process on a large scale industrial process, so I can only imagine what it must be like for a one-off 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

Paul, those photo's were taken late this afternoon, so hopefully tomorrow everything will be flattened wet and have them base coated in Java & a couple of coats of lacquer to finish.
I know exactly what you mean about black showing up any imperfections, as it is exactly the same with the vehicles. Black was always a difficult colour to spray on older motors, especially if any cataloy, filling was done. It sticks out a mile if you know what to look for.
The FFRR in the booth behind the bumper, had a few dents knocked out with one of these dent master type companies, as trying to fill the dents would have made the RR look a mess.
As for any imperfections, the 2K(2 pack) lacquer rubs down lovely wet with P1200-1500 and then he has a small polishing system for doing these types of jobs, So once polished, compounded, it should come up like a piece of glass.
I will post the photo's up as the job progresses. ATB
