Once the body is off is must make servicing the rest of the mechanicals very easy.

I can work out that there must be a number of electrical plugs to detach the loom and I am assuming they must detach the bottom of the steering column from the rack put what do they do with the clutch - for those people that have them? I assume they are hydraulic and it is just a case of disconnecting the slave cylinder?

I did hear that those dealers with experience of this job can have the body off in roughly an hour. Must take a bit long to reconnect.

Looking at those photos it would appear the D3 is pretty much the same as the D1 & D2. That is to say a body bolted onto a seperate chassis.

I thought the idea behind the D3 (and all the marketing talk) was that the D3 did not have a seperate chassis like the previous two but had a "body integrated frame". I was under the impression that the chassis and body were one and therefore could not be seperated.

So, the question is whats the difference between the original "body on chassis" and the D3s "body integrated frame".

The body is basically monocoque (unlike D1, D2, defender etc), but mounted over a ladder chassis, so you get the road handling and body integrity of a monocoque and the off-roading advantages of a ladder frame. It's like having 2 chassis, hence the weight.

The D3 and RRS are very tough beasts albeit let down by some poor components like EPB, EGR etc.....

Hi
Have changed two engines in the past year on these Discoverys, auto and manual.
Both required the body to be lifted, in fact the only way to remove a manual engine is to remove it complete with the gearbox and the seperate them. There is a cross member which stops the engine from sliding off the input shaft of the gearbox whilst the engine is in the chassis.
As far as dealer tech's being able to remove the body in an hour, I find this hard to belive as the book time to remove the body is 8 hours and thats based on every thing coming apart as intended.
As previously mentioned it is designed to come apart and go back together again, and they really are a great vehicle.
One last thought, on GTR quite a few procedures start:
1 Disconect battery
2 Remove bodyshell from chassis.

Viva Montesa

Simon

Hi
Yes, the manual hadn,t had the bonnet opened for 36k miles and ran out of oil, owner exclaimed that they didn't think they needed to check anything. The auto had a good drink of water through the air intake, Land rover said no to both as far as warranty claims go.
We have done quite a lot of other problems too.
Regards
