Body rust

Hi all

Has anyone got rust at the bottom of the rear doors. Can decide to leave or fix. And how much it would cost?

I had minor rust in exactly the same location Big Cry

It wasn't as bad as that.... however just starting to show where the rubber door seal touches the inner panel.

I rubbed mine down at the weekend and treated with kurust and re-painted.

Looks ok for now.... will see if it lasts.... fingers crossed

I think the cause of this would appear to be moisture accumulating behind the rubber arch seal

Seems to be a bit of a moisture trap Big Cry

I always make a point now of washing the door seal and wheel arch thoroughly with fresh water at every wash.

There is a drainage gap that sometimes gets crudded up right behind the mud flap... make sure that's clear

I will add it to my list of monthly things to do. I will remove the trim and asses the rust. It's the same both sides.

At least it's not a mot fail

There's a post elsewhere on this site where some of us looked at the sills underneath the plastic covers with varying degress of surprise at what lies underneath. Mine was caked in horse/cow poo and mud, but otherwise appeared pretty good for a 12 year old LR - nothing a good scrub/paint/seal couldn't deal with

Basically you should probably have the plastic covers off and see what you're dealing with underneath the sill cover.

EDIT: to answer your query directly - definitely fix; sill covers off first to assess problem further.
