brake booster modification

hi all
i just took ownership of my first Disco 3 (2006) everything seemed fine then i had the hardness of brakes and after visiting the internet realised that it is a recognised problem

i have been to my local LD dealer (MK) to no avail and will now swallow the pill and get my indy to do the work

the brakes work fine 95% of the time so the issue is only sporadic,
i have just two questions if anyone could please advise that would be great

1- because the build up of oil in the booster might not be so bad can it be drained and i just fit non return pipes to save money ?

2 - there are TRW booster parts on the internet, has anyone got any experience with this make and are they good quaity ?

i don't want sounda tight Censored but the Disco cost all my budget and i didn't think i would be spending out quite so quickly

thanks john

TRW are just fine they make parts for many land rovers, well actually like many companies these days Im sure they box loads of parts in their own logo boxes!

Ive fitted many TRW boxed parts over the years with no real issues.

You coudl always suck the oil out and monitor it to see how quickly it comes back.
Has it had the pipe mod carried out?.

thanks for your reply

i haven't done anything yet as i'm waiting for my mechanic to return from holiday

as it stands the brakes are working perfectly now, but it did happen so i'm just going to put it in the garage when he gets back and see what he says

thanks for the advise on TRW parts

John - welcome

First and more most can you confirm that Land Rover have already carried out the mod to your braking system?

If not - get onto Land Rover Customer Services, they will carry it out if not already done.

All vehicles affected are mentioned here

this was the problem

LD said they had done the mod last year in May

the previous owner who i know says its never been anywhere near a LD main dealer in the last 3 years

they couldn't tell me where it had been done, and said contact LD customer services

i did, but they couldn't give me any info as the log book hasn't been updated yet and they can only speak with the registered owner
it just got to the point where it wasn't worth the hassle

so i looked at the mod kits on the internet about £150 and to fit around 2 hours so for £250 its done if it needs to be

i might follow it up when i get the log book back, i will see how i feel

if i'm honest i don' think LD are bothered about an old 2006 Disco, i was getting fobbed off 3 times i wanted information and no one wanted to know, the waiting time was horrendous so i just gave up in the end

can you beleive they wanted to charge me £168 for telling me it had been done,
which i refused and they let me go,
but the Bonnet light kept comingon, their fault so i had another hour and a bit wait

all in all not a great experience

a member on here @gstuart had this carried out within the last year or so by land rover

Its a safety critical mod and I would be hounding them regarding this, don't be fobbed off

Can you post a photo of your engine bay or did you see the photo of the modded brake pipes in the attached thread?
