Brake disc badly scratched on one side

Morning,

All of a sudden the rear drivers side brake disc has become really badly scratched. The other side is completely fine.

what is the cause of this? Is it wear and tear or something that’s wrong and covered under warranty?

You’ve had a stone stuck in the brake pad, or the pads have worn down previously or are worn down now and need changing, which side is it on?- the wear sensor is only fitted on the off side.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Are you sure the brake calliper isn't seized, even partially, go on a little run and see it you can hear any faint squealing. Check the temp of the disk after a mile or so without any harsh braking. Be careful it will be https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/images/smiles/icon_censored.gif HOT if it'd rubbing.
