Brake failure
Strange and scary thing has happened twice now on my 54 plate TDV6. Whilst pulling out of my car park (from cold) applied the brakes at the junction and nothing seemed to happen. Gave the pedal a good hard second press and slowed vehicle enough to stop. Tried brakes again and absolutly fine. No warning bongs or lights, no leaks, brake reservoir just below top mark. All brake pads are fine, passed the MOT with flying colours 3 weeks ago. I have read all the threads and can't seem to find a diagnosis. Can anyone help. Many thanks.
Matt

it could be the ingress of oil into your Servo, was a safety recall on certain VIN's
See this vaccum connection, unclip it and shake the pipes, if oil present its a probable failure of the VacPac seal on the rear of the engine, allowing oil up the vacuum pipes and into servo.
If that has happened, for me it was a NEW VacPac, and Brake Servo, luckily all under warrenty.

Let VOSA know.
A lot are failing outside the VIN for the recall. Take to the dealer and try to get LR to pay as it other vehicles are recalled for the same issue.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Update... I decided not to wait until tommorrow and have just checked the vacuum pipe by torch light and to my suprise / horror there is black oil present, not much though but there all the same. So how does that leave me, my car is out of both date and vin range - would I have to foot the bill for remedial work ? By coincidence it is in at the 'stealers' tommorrow for a programme enhancement recall (which is free)
Any suggestions appreciated

Is the hose to check the black one with the blocky connector above the white fluid reservoir??? Is it easy to disconnect & reconnect, Mrs DSL is worried (probably rightly so) that I'll stuff it up! My brakes are starting to feel a bit soft, needs quite a bit more force to stop sharply. My car us a couple of hundred before the VIN range fir the recall.

DSL, yes its the hose with the connector block in the middle. Just press in the side buttons and it comes apart quite easy, i am not sure what quantity of oil would constitute a problem, mine had a tiny amount of black stuff. Please assure Mrs DSL, it is easy to pull apart, Thanks to macleod 313 and others for their advice.

Please report this to VOSA or LR will never extend the recall to other VINs.
In Aus to DOTARS.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Cheers Matty!!! Has anyone in the UK with a VIN before the recall (and hence out of warranty) had the mods done and paid for by LR?Mine is in for a service & MOT next week so good timing to get it done then if it is the case of the soft brakes.

Well I took mine into Stratstones at Stockton today, and they checked it all over whilst doing a software update (which was free) and the brakes are fine. A classic sign of vacuum hose problems is a hard brake pedal. When I experienced my problem the brakes travelled smoothly. So it must have just been a bit of a glitch, just hope it doesnt happen again As soon as the weather picks up I will be giving the calipers a strip down and good clean anyway!
Thanks for the replies
