Brake pad question
Daft question but how thick are genuine rear pads new and at what point (thickness wise) should they be changed? From looking in through the wheels it looks like they are ~4mm (eyeball estimate). Discs deffo need changed at next pad change.
Thoughts oh wise ones out there out there?

Cheers. 18mm down to 4mm (estimate) means I better get them sorted, especially considering I’ll be doing 7,000 miles in end June/early July.
Kidney anyone?

I think that’s the general way of doing it but mine (as far as I know) are factory originals for both. Not bad at 49k miles/7 years, but purely down to lots and lots and lots of long Mway hauls.

Dont forget the 18mm will include the back plate thickness as well, Iirc mot wants to see at least the thickness of a 5 pence coin of friction material remaining.
Very true. Actual thickness of the material on the pad is 12mm, 18mm is the thickness of the complete pad.

Now booked in for new pads and discs. I looked at the lipping on the disc and it is pretty spectacular. ISTR Gareth telling me off at the Ice Fest re the state of the back discs but conveniently forgot.
