Brake Pad Warning Light and Brake Pads Questions |
|
Some questions please? Got a 57 plate HSE.
Brake pad warning light just came on. Is this critical i.e. must they be repalced straight away or have I got a few days.
As car is still in warranty (apprecaite these aren't covered) is it ok to use an Independent LR garage to get them replaced?
About how much should the brake pads and install cost (please don't suggest I do it myself as thats not an option )
Cheers

Using an independent is fine, just make sure they use LR parts
I would get them done sooner rather than later, to avoid any potential damage to the disc I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Just changed mine myself an hour ago, hardest part is taking the wheel off TBH, and although the pads will set you back £55 or so, and a sensor £15 to the N/S front wheel, it will take you no more than an hour. Why line the dealers pockets, and you will appreciate the work done by yourself.

MacLeod 313............
I had a phone call one time from the controller of company cars at a previous company I worked for. He was doing some checking and wanted to know if the Mondeo I had was a 4 or 5 door. He heard a long pause on the phone and eventually he asked what was wrong. I had to admit to him that I had been looking at the car for a while and couldn't find a 5th door . All I could hear was a man falling about at the end of the phone laughing...
Would you get in my car if I changed the brake pads. I know I wouldn't
Happy to get an independent to do it, for the worlds sake

I see your point
How about you contact Nick at Yeovil and get an independant to fit then, they should'nt charge more than an hours labour, or check TFC's movements, he could supply n fit and is mobile.

Just popped into the local independent LR garage. (For those local, the one at the top of nantgarw Hill near Caerphilly). £65 for front pads + £15 for sensor and £30 per wheel to change. Booked in for tomorrow as at that price it is safer for all. Thanks for help.

Now that seems a deal for the pads n sensor, but £30 to take off a wheel. Needs must though, and you'll be braking proper again

MacLeod 313...
I mis-heard them when they gave me the price. it was only £30 labour in total for the 2 front brake pads. 2 x new front brake pads and install and sensors = £122.38. Excellent vlaue

Sound like a fair price to me, I think my pads were about £110 front and rear with the sensors, piece of pi$$ to fit as long as the wheel brace doesn't snap half way through... TDV6 HSE - Light Guards - White Reflective Sticker

Waranty just about to expire and the rear pads need changing. The Stealer doing the pre-end of warranty check want £175 +VAT so I think I need get the spanners out and change them myself. I have the tools to do the work as I did my own maintenance on my old D2.
The question is - If I want genuine parts do I have to go to the stealer or is there a reputable supplier out there that sells them at a reasonable price?? - If so WHO??
If it makes any difference my motor is a Manual TDV6 on a 56 plate.
Cheers in advance.
