Noticed today that if I hit the brake very hard the pedal only moves half way. It then feels "hard" and like hitting metal. Won't go down further. ABS doesn't come on at all. Tried a emergency stop at 70miles an hour.
No warning light comes on. Any suggestions to what might be the cause? CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

Just when to the local independent to have a quick check.
There is oil in the air vaccuum pipe and the servo. We extracted the oil and it brakes well on the first time. As soon as you have the brake the second time it goes hard. When I hit the gas for some revs it brakes well again.
I was advised to replace to replace the air vaccum pipe first. Is the pack seal in this pipe and could replacing it cure the problem? CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

The very minimum you could try,(assuming you have a Euro 3 engine, like mine) would be to fit the modified vac pipes, and install new check valve /spring and elbow on the secondary vacuum connection on the vac pump (this should come as a kit, and pt no's are shown on the P017 recall instructions, which are on here somewhere). I replaced the servo and all the brake fluid in the system on mine too, (and depending on how much oil is in the servo and whether oil is present at the master cylinder pushrod, the master cyl may need replacing too).TBH although the new piping/ valve arrangement may ( I have yet to find out) stop the migration of oil, it doesn't address the problem of the vac pump letting the oil through in the first place IMHO, but that's LR technical for you, with their 'that'll do ' attitude.

Went to the stealer today to see if they would do the repair under the recall action. Unfortunately they dont.
Quoted me the repair for 500 ex vat. For that they replace the booster, vacuum pipe and and mastercylinder.
Getting the parts from TLO would save me a lot but can I replace these parts myself?
I know the mastercylinder is in an akward place, or do you get to that from below? CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

Don't accept that answer from the dealer. Well known issue there is a safety recall for it but restricted to certain Vin range, but there are many failing iutside this range. Tell VOSA that you have the issue outside the VIN for the recall. LR are trying to duck this one. Hope no one gets killed before they recall all vehicles likely to fail.
Here LR Oz are paying outside VIN range (and warranty) but not officially. Ring LR CC and give them a blast using the words SAFETY and UNSAFE frequently. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
