Brake Squeak - Help Its Driving My Nuts |
|
I have a break squeak! Is there anything simple, a DIY novice can do to shut it up, i think mine is front the front wheels as TFC has just done my rear handbrake and the squeak was there before and after he worked his magic.
Is there any thing i could spray through my alloy spokes and on too the brake cailper?

remove the pads and copper slip the backs of them (not the friction surface!!!) and if that doesn't work, try filing a 45 degree chamfer on to the leading edge of the pads (had to do this on my Evo to cure a squeal) and if that doesn't work, try another set of pads! 2014 D4 XS

Not at all, there are guides on here on how to remove the pads and copper slip which is a kind of copper based grease can be bought from halfords for not very much money!
I'd use a dremel tool to file the chamfer if required, or skip this bit and go straight for quality new pads! 2014 D4 XS

Have your rear shoes ever been done. I had the squeak squeak squeak last year, was'nt always there but every journey it would make an appearence.
After exhaustive searching I found it was down to Low'ish rear friction material, nowhere near ready to set the pad sensors off, but low enough to stop the calipers retract enough.
Now I bit the bullet and purchased NEW pads, and found LR have upgraded the shape, old ones are square'ish, new ones are a diamond shape.
NEVER HEARD A SQUEAK SINCE.
Easy job to do, but remember to copaslip the sliders, rear of pads, and i did a little on the caliper pistons once I emery clothed them lighlty.

It still seems like a big job.
The pads i've been informed were changed in sept09 and the hand brake shoes were done 2weeka ago by TFC.
Do you think a brakes garage would charge a lot to cooper. Grease the. Pads?

Check that the pads are not jammed in the stainless shims which sit in the slider assembly. Corrosion can build up behind and under the shims which stops the pads retracting when the brakes are released. They remain in contact with the discs which heat up and squeak. If they are jammed, remove the pads and shims and scrape the carrier grooves clean and apply a little copper grease before reassembling.
