Hi guys,
I’m having to replace my replace my front brake pads and discs at the very least due to having a few issues with the brakes sticking on. I putting this down to using my disco 3 to launch a small boat I have into the sea. I wash the brakes off using fresh water after every trip but i still had problems.
I’m thinking of replacing all my brake pads and discs on all 4 wheels, including rebuilding the calipers or news seals, pistons and float pins.
Before I end up spending a load of money on something that might break again, can you offer advice on what is best for me to do in the situation (apart from not dunking the disco in saltwater🙈). I seen upgraded ventilated discs but wonder if this will make things worse as there’s more surface area for the saltwater to come in contact with metal
Any advice appreciated

Forget ventilated, consider the V8 brake upgrade, they will not eliminate the salt water problem but I can’t see it being any worse than the salt applied to roads in winter, they will certainly improve braking efficiency and last nearly twice as long as standard D3 brakes.
I would be more concerned about body work corrosion that how it affects the brakes It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I saw a D3 c.10 years ago with very considerable rear end rust; it was about 3-4 years old at the time IIRC.
It has been used for those 3-4 years by someone to launch his RIB in the Solent. He always washed the rib, trailer & car off when retrieving it, but the car was in an awful state.
If you are going to launch in this manner I would suggest a very deep clean, followed by treatment with Dinitrol, or something similar with regular & frequent tops up.

Slightly off topic, all my hubs are rusty. Is it just a case of wire brushing them and hammerite or similar or is there a better alternative solution ?

I feared that might be the case, but didn't want to overstate the case.
I've lived within a hundred yards of the sea for c. 50 of the last 77 years, and never got my car wet launching various boats.

Likewise - the sea is about 6m from the bottom of our driveway.
I try not to get the trailer hubs wet let alone those on the D3 when launching our 7m RIB. The sign I've gone far enough is when the car tyres get to the waters edge.
Even after taking lots of care I still have to change the trailer brake drums and bearings every 2-3 years.
If you have to immerse the trailer to launch your boat then consider an extension bar that can fit between the trailer and tow hitch. Plenty of people use a 6 or 8'length of scaffold pole with a tow ball welded to one end and a cheap hitch to the other (assuming a length of rope won't do!)
