The irony being, of course, that the EU never required us to have red passports in the first place. That was a Government-of-the-day decision...
Oh,and the UK passport must contain a foreign language too. So you'll have French (or Spanish but most likely French) in your beloved blue passport anyway. All paid for by the tax payer.

Taking back control
Seeing as we weren't forced to choose a French firm to do the passports...there is nothing in this decision that goes against 'taking back control'.
Funnily enough, it just reinforces the naturally open-trading nature of the UK.
I would be more concerned if the UK turned inward and nationalistic.
I don't care if our passports are burgundy or blue.
I'd rather they were a nice bright colour so they were easier to find.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Don’t care what colour they are just ensure everyone’s NI number is on them. Would save a fortune on benefit fraud.Once you have defeated the idiots any job is half done. Pity there are so many idiots to defeat.

In this day and age, we should all be security micro chipped including our DNA. That would end fraud.

Sorry, I forgot about procuring a service through EEJ, we have to choose to go this route.
Indeed we could tailor the requirements to suit our nationalistic needs as French, Germans and the rest often do. Brits appear to be only ones who ever follow the prescription and swallow all others. General comment I know but who has not seen this happen whether it’s trains, construction or power stations. Very rarely are procurement decisions scrutinised.
I am sure there will be those who will strive to make examples to fit but very rarely do you see other European nations not using their own national product. Delivery vans, army trucks to name a couple and now perhaps de la Rue losing passport contract, we could have put in national security interests criteria as a weighting in the award. I expect we did not. We play fair I believe but do others?D3 2.7 Zermatt silver (not another one)
