The poor girl finally let me down today at 5 years and 113,500 miles
Overtaking a lorry and she stopped pulling, and a ticking noise got progressivly louder untill i pulled over to the side of the road and it stalled. Wouldnt re-start and VERY rough turn-over.
Got trailered to Matford LR and they rekon the engine has seized not sure why or how though..
They rekon its a new engine too, but got them stripping it down for a bit of diagnostics!!
a VERY sad day... You only live once, but if you work it right, once is enough.

Sorry to hear..
The exact same thing happened to me too, also while overtaking. Slight knocking sound got louder and engine stopped after 10-15 seconds.. Broken crankshaft was the cause, and we are not the first ones that have had this happened to us. Replacement engines come with a stronger crankshaft from the 3.0 engine, but LR denies the old one was a problem..
I ended up with new engine, 7 months (seven!) in the shop and a £11k bill.
Sorry to hear that Jim - do keep us informed on what Matford find. At least there's a few more used TDV6 engines starting to appear on the market now if you have to swap it out

What a nightmare Jimbo. I hope its not as bad as it sounds......CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS
Annoying to see that these folks also were told that "it's the first time ever it has happened to a TDV6".
There are many cases and it seems none are taken seriously, and on top of it all they fit a stronger crankshaft to the newer engines. Why do that if there's nothing wrong with the old one..
Lets just hope Jimbos shaft is still intact!

Sorry to hear about your breakdown.
Mine also broke down yesterday so with the aid of AA took to local LR dealer where one of their 'trade' drivers kindly backed a Jag into it SOLD - 23my Range Rover Sport D300 Dynamic SE
Well Matford rekoned the engine was seized and required a WHOLE new one at the bargain price of £6800 Funny that i managed to turn the engine over before delivering it to them..
..so i picked it back up again and its at an independant LR garage now, they've stripped it down and they found that a big end bearing's gone and F ked the crank shaft..... sound familiar
So, deciding whather to just replace the parts or replace the whole unit with one from a breakers...
anyone got any advice it would be greatly received You only live once, but if you work it right, once is enough.

The engine block provoked a slight crack at the engine block, from where oil was coming out right after the incident. The engine will be sent to England for more thorough research as this is the first incident of it kind in all over the world for a TDV6 engine!
Complete boldox!!! It'll be in a very long queue of TDV6 lumps!

A carefully worded letter to LR may get you some consideration of a discount on new engine? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
