Sorry to hear that your car has been broken into.
I was going to buy myself a Spybox GSM alarm.
This sends a text straight to your mobile or any other phone if triggered.
It sounds like a great bit of kit & very easily connected to the vehicle.
I have a radio pager on the defender which is great, especially when the vehicle is left full of gear. The only problem is remembering to take the pager with you....
Easy with the Spybox, you just carry your mobile phone which I guess most of us do.
I am going to shop around for a spybox kit. If I can find a good deal, I shall let you all know.

Make sure the alarm sounder is still unplugged.
The 3 times ours went into the dealer they plugged it back in

The thing with these little 's is that they have no concept of what they do. They don't think about the cost of the damage, the inconvenience, the cost of replacing what's stolen and the annoyance, frustration and angst it causes the owner. Usually what they steal is of no use to them anyhow. It'll probably get fiddled with then thrown away.
If one of these little bottom feeders does get caught, it's from then on all about him, with agencies falling over themselves to do the right thing by him. Successive government initiatives/plans to put the victim first have had little effect, especially as regards what the authorities call "minor" crimes.
As you may have guessed, I have been in the same situation as Woody.
Personally I'd take a baseball bat to everything the little feckers owned. Not them, to "their" treasured goods. Then finish with a warning that they're next if they're ever seen doing anything like that again.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
