Broken plastic cover on release handle for 3rd row seat |
|
I'm on my second D3 in as many months (the first one was a lemon but came with a money back guarantee which I was compelled to make use of). Both have had a broken plastic cover on the release handle for one of the 3rd row seats (actually, both were broken on the first D3 I bought). Having used the search facility on the forum, I've been unable to identify it as a common, if minor, problem. Is this something that anyone else has experienced and how much have people paid for a new cover?
Basically, the cover appears to separate into 2 pieces and the little clips that hold it together appear to snap off.

When you say "cover", do you mean the handle that releases the lock that hold the seat back position? If so, I have have had one of these broken too. It was caused by a passenger trying to raise the folded seat back by pulling the handle instead of pushing it down to release the latch. I simply glued mine back on using an epoxy glue. I tried a polystyrene solvent adhesive first but this did not work.

I had this too - eventually I managed to work out how to clip it together again (about 3 weeks before it was traded in!) Assuming none of the clips have broken, ISTR it's just a matter of lining everything up properly and giving a good hard squeeze

Yes, Dave, that's the one.
I'll have another go at squeezing this one back together, Martin - I haven't quite been able to get it all to line up properly but that's probably partly a consequence of having no feeling in my fingers owing to the big chill.
Might run the car up for 5 minutes with the heater running this afternoon so that I can climb in the back and give this another go.
Failing that, I'll go for the epoxy fix.
Cheers chaps.

Sorry, I was referring to the SECOND row seats where the handles are on the top of the backrests so my advice may not be much use.

Ditto what Martin said for mine, took several attempts though. Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
SIII Lightweight - neglected & rusting. Bulkhead, A panels, vent panel & outriggers now disintegrated - Next years project!
