Bubbling corrosion on tailgate

Discovered this patch, inch long on the very bottom of upper tailgate. Had look round the forum but can’t find any advice other than its aluminium and waxoil the cavity. Can I just sand it back, prime and paint?
Excuse the plastic sheet on the lower tailgate.

In the absence of any advice I'll just have a crack at it. I was just concerned because it's aluminium and didn't know if there was anything special to apply/treat.

IIRC, you just need to get all the powdery white ali oxide off then use a suitable primer.
