First time ive ever brought a new set of tyres for a car in my life!! and look, after only 2.5k miles an unrepairable one!!!
Im hoping that I won't have to change 2 as ive only done such low milage. Need to find the tyre depth gauge.

Might be worth getting the opinion of a trusted independent as to the possibility of a vulcanised repair. Now Golf GTI PP, 7 speed DSG.

take it to a back street place
They'll fix it and then use it as a spare

I already have a brand new spare but its a different make, i went for a cheap multi direction for the full sized spare.
My brother said that his place won't fix it, im sure places used to do it but I assume at some point they changed there minds on what was safe.

Worst bit was, i was loaded up to come home from the new forest, on a gravel track, raining, had to empty the boot of all contents including dogs. Use the jack of danger. Grrrrr!

I had one that was in a similar place - independent near where I live fits and repairs HGV tyres and they sent it away for a vulcanised plug repair. I’m no expert on tyre repairs but the same company also refused a repair a year or so before.
If your brother knows his stuff, looks like a new tyre. Now Golf GTI PP, 7 speed DSG.

You should be able to get it hot vulcanised, I had one similar to that, lasted another 20k miles. There’s not many places that do it but they will be mainly commercial vehicle places. It will probably take a fe2 days, the one 8n Glasgow waits for a full load for th3 chamber.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

You think that’s unlucky...Thursday before Xmas I fitted four brand new winter tyres on daughters FL2.... the following day and no more than 40 miles later she returns with a huge flint embedded across the tread which had cut through all the plies and created a huge z shape cut destroying the tyre...
£130 down the drain....gutted....

UK standards are set by BSAU159. Now minor tyre repairs will be carried out by most tyre places which basically means the middle 60-70% of the tread. The outer edge of the tread and side wall are deemed major repair area. Note it is not prohibited just defined as a major repair.
Most tyre repair places will repair the central tread area and say they can not/will not/it is illegal to do a major repair.
Now you will need to find a company which does major tyre repairs/vulcanisation of tyres close to you. For example major repairs are carried out on side walls of 4x4 and commercial vehicles. Have a read of this . Good luck.

Some places do a tyre insurance for a fiver, the only time I ever paid it was worth it when after 12 months I tore one on a pot hole. I would name the place but not sure if I can and to be honest it’s a chain that I wouldn’t recommend anyway, sounds like fix.012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)
