Buying advice
Hi All,
New to the site, and was after some advice about what to look for when buying a second hand Disco 3 manual on a 55/56 plate as i believe the 07/57 plates are dearer to tax ?
DO you recommend buying one from a dealer or buy one privately and putting my on warranty on it from someone like warranty direct ?
Thanks
matt

In my humble opinion whatever you were thinking of investing in an aftermarket warranty i would put that amount away in a bank account or under your mattress & stick 2 fingers up to the warranty. In my experience the phrase " sorry sir that is not a covered item" crops up far to frequently once you have studied the terms & conditions of the warranty & they have relieved you of the premium.

Glad I didn't do that as I'd be several grand out of pocket. Ya pays yer money or takes yet chance.

Ours is a late March 06 and gets whacked with the full £460
We paid £530 for a Warranty Direct Extracare package, this covers most things.
Look for some posts on how to get them to play ball on prices and costs.
Luckily ours had some of the standard nasties fixed by the previous owners.(Remap, EGRs Blanked,Silicon I/C hose) from BAS, (Torque Convertor, Compressor, FL Wishbones, Alternator) by WD, Belts by Newbury4x4, Megaflush+extra cooler by GRGB, Diff+Transfer oils, ARB Bushes, Fuel filter, Fixed Towbar, Remote FBH.

It's easy to get all emotional about the increased road tax but it's only £200 per year. This could be an insignificant amount compared to the maintenance costs on an older disco?
I'm with Kidney and would take the gamble personally on warranties - some years you'll be ahead and some you'll lose, but if the odd's weren't against you the warranty companies wouldn't make money! Difficult choice though.

Hi the lower tax band relates to cars registered before 23rd March 2006
I have an 06 plate HSE thats £260 a year , a friend of our has another 06 plate at £460 a year
When I told him he was not a happy bunny as he didn't know about the difference
They are great cars but as with all Land Rovers it not will it break down but when
I have had most of the range over the last 20 years and still love them
Most of the time it is silly things that let them down
You will here about all the problems on the forums but you rarely here from owners when they are running well !!!
My advise for what it is worth is buy the highest spec you can find , try both auto and manual
The manuals are nice and slightly more economical but the auto are so much more relaxing to drive
As with other reply put the money you would pay for the warranty in the bank and pay for the repairs as they happen
Hope this helps

If it's a HSE I would say that's a pretty good price, compared to the ones I've seen. It's quite a low mileage for a 55 plate, and I've seen many at much higher mileages than this, and they're asking at least a grand more!2006 D3 S (I use it when I can prise the keys off the wife!)
2009 Astra CDTi SXi ecoflex (I use this when I can't!)
