Caliper painting ...

My brake calipers are looking a bit rusty, now I have wheels with bigger gaps!

I appreciate one can get specialist brake caliper paint, but I happen to have a tin of silver Hammerite in my garage ... is Hammerite good enough for the heat etc?

Also, the hubs are going the same way - appear to be a duck egg blue ... Shocked

THERE IS NO WAY I'M GOING INTO HALFORDS AND ASKING FOR "DUCK EGG BLUE" HAMMERITE!!!!

(It's probably an offence)

Has anyone painted them a different colour and thought ... "Fabulous. I should've been a painter ..." Rolling with laughter

I am considering this too, I seem to remember from my Escort mk1 days its shimple, heat resitant caliper paint is available in many colours, and of course silver - the one that you will require. Dont bother with the hammerite IMO.

Yes, i have done mine. It's a caliper painting kit you buy, which contains a tin of brake cleaner for washing calipers etc down and a smallish tin of pait. The paint is very thin and opaic and requires a few coats to get a suitable solid look finish.

Cost was about the £20 mark.

The kit i bought was available in Red, Blue or Yellow. Thumbs Up

Having put anthracite coloured wheels on my car it makes the hubs behind stand out, mine are 'flat grey' rather than 'duck-egg blue' Laughing

They are also rusty on the rear (fronts are new) so will be getting a lick of black heat resistant paint when I get time

I used Hammerite on my calipers. 6 months of 'enthusiastic' driving, paint is all still fine. No chips, or lifting paint etc Thumbs Up
